I have no idea how or why this is happening, but this is either a legit promo or an error that has yet to be corrected as of last night.
For reference, the online-only club discount is 20%. I'm calling this a double discount since 0.8*0.8 = 0.64, which equates to a 36% discounts.
I'm off to Sears later on to pick up my Cross Force set. I'm strongly debating whether I should order deep offset wrench set or two. I have two SAE sizes and don't foresee "needing" the other three, nor would I frequently use the metric. Still, this discount is almost too huge to pass up! argh!
Edit: I am under the impression that there will be a 10% discount on Wed. I'd say there's a 50/50 chance that this double promo will end (or be corrected) by then, but if it doesn't end and all the discounts compound, we'll have a healthy round two. When considering whether waiting to see if the 10% stacks as well is worth the risk, consider that right now the discount is 36%, and that 10% off of that results in a 42.4% discount. At the worst case scenario, a single 20% Club discount will alone stack with the 10% resulting in a net discount of 28%.

$26.88. It was slightly lower last night with the additional 10% discount, but only by $2. This price is also not including the $5 coupon.
Also, check your private messages 1-2 mins after you see this reply.

You should have gotten a club number when you signed up,. Thats all you need to order online. Just add your # to your profile on Sears web site.

I've tried signing up online twice now. When you complete the fields on the form and submit it, you don't get any membership number back (or at least I didn't). The first time I tried, I later asked the juvenile delinquents behind the counter at Sears what's supposed to happen next, and they told me I'd get a card in the mail in six weeks. It never came. I recently tried signing up again, and still haven't gotten anything. I might try calling them if there's a phone number listed on the CC web site.

I called them, they told me they had no record of me ever signing up. Maybe I should've tried Internet Explorer or enabled popups in Firefox. Anyway I signed up (again) over the phone, but she told me "the IDs are generated every Wednesday or Thursday" so I can't get my ID until Friday. Seems a little silly.

Stuey, have you used Cross Force wrenches? I've got a set of GearWrench X-Beams and I've found access problems in tight work spaces. The twisted handle along with the open/box end can get in the way. Just thought you'd wanna know.
Stuey
05-11-2009, 01:45 PM
Just a theory, but if a number works here (http://craftsman.com/craftsmanclub/), then it should give you the discount at checkout as well.
e.g.
7071122222222222
7073456789876543
7076666666666666
etc etc
The membership system seems to be random. I've used my membership number numerous times and I have not received any flyer or acknowledgement in years.
For what it's worth, I am not suggesting, recommending, or encouraging that you use a membership number that is not yours; I merely wish to point out and explore an observation that I made. I wonder if these would be recognized as valid by the checkout process...

I picked it up for $34 and change after tax last night due to the extra 10% discount. But, I'd consider anything under $50 excellent considering the $80 retail price!
I needed the wrench sets like a whole in the head but at that price I could not resist. Picked up both cross force and the professional SAE wrench sets for $148 with tax.
I was almost as tempted. I tossed and turned when I tried to go to sleep last night, considering whether I needed the 13pc sets to replace my current 9pc sets and whether I needed deep offset wrench sets. Logic won me over - this time...

I've used X-Beam and Cross Force, and arrived at the same conclusion as you. However, there were many more times when the increased flat surface area were beneficial vs. the times I needed a slimmer wrench for a confined area. In other words, I wouldn't use Cross Force wrenches exclusively, but they make for an excellent secondary set.

I have good reason to believe that there will be another 10% off sale soon. But, there's no guarantee that the double 20% promo will hold. Nor does it guarantee that what you want won't go out of stock when the price drops slightly.

Actually, there's a free shipping over $200 thing going, too. That's going off ORIGINAL price.
1-1/16, 1-1/8, 1-1/4, 1-5/16, 1-1/2" c-pro's, 3/8-15/16" offset box c-pro's, and 10-19mm offset box c-pros
Total $210 (normally)
shipped price $134. 36% off. Nice. A single Snap-On 1 1/2" wrench sells for $127.
Geez.... I swore an oath last night that I was NOT going to buy any more tools for a little while.
And that lasted less than 12 hours in the end. I ended pulling the trigger on the 10 pc deep offset box end wrench set after I read thru this thread. Hard to argue with saving $30+ dollars on something I've been wanting for quite a while..... :bounce:
Too bad it wasn't available for local pickup so I could save the cost of shipping....

The free shipping kicks in after you reach $200 before the discount- not hard to get.
Might be going back for seconds to use as gifts.
I just signed up, no membership number yet:( I hope this goes for a few more days till I receive the number.

Not sure if this is the only way, but I go to www.craftsman.com and enter my club number to "sign on". Once I'm signed on, I click on TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT at the top of the page. That takes me to the Sears tool page for shopping.

Last night I placed two 5 piece large professional combination wrench sets in my cart (thanks to Stuey). I didn't check out. I checked my cart this morning and there is another 10% off magically added to the 36%. Also got the $5 off coupon and free shipping. Total price for the two sets was $157.14 including tax and free shipping. The regular price for the two sets totals $260. I already have the raised panel versions of these large wrenches, so I don't need these, but the price is too good to pass up. What the hell, my wife is always buying stuff she doesn't need because it's on sale.

Dang Sears did it again. I loaded up my cart and all the discounts showed up. It was 43% off when I added them this morning. All at once, the discount disappeared and it was down to less than 20% off. Typical. I haven't made it to checkout more than a few times on Sears.com without my discounts disappearing. Tou nearly need to buy each item as soon as you add it to be certain of a discount.

Here's my "happy" story.
I signed up for Craftsman Club. I did not get my number back yet, but used one of the fabriacted numbers. It worked. When I registered at Sears.com; it sent an email to me. The email indicated that if I went to the site from the email I would recieve and extra $5 off. When I did, it gave me the option of printing a coupon. I cheated and printed five of the $5 ones. When I rang out, it gave me 5-$5 credits on the online total!!!!
I ordered a 5 pc HUGE 12pt pro combi set (retail $129) after savings it cost me only $67.63) :bounce:
I ordered the 28 pc SAE and metric full polish 12pt combi retail of $169.99 and recieved it for $124.78.
Then I got free shipping, so the total with tax was $224.36 meaning I saved a total of $107.57..:beer:Thanks so much for the heads up!!!!

Well, I went crazy. Here is what I wound up ordering in 4 different orders (to take full advantage of discounts):

7pc metric cross force ratcheting
10 pc full polish deep offset
11pc standard full polish stubby combi
5pc standard 12pt huge combi set
28pc stand/metric full polish 12pt set
all this would have cost me $694.94, but I got it for $479.10.

I did it the other night, and kept going back and forth adjusting my cart. I once added the 48 piece rethreader set (only 10% off), and removed it (adding it to my gift want list), and I added, removed, added, removed, the large full polished SAE Craftsman wrenches. I already have most of them (missing 1 1/4) and figure it gives me the excuse I need to go to Harry Epstien's for the Wright wrench to fill in that size.
But I did order the larger metric set and the non included 21mm.

I bit, at first the new 10% threw me off, dropped me below $199 free shipping, but a search on socket sorted low to high and I added 4 GearWrench pass thru sockets for 89 cents each and shipping was free again.
3 drawer intermediate box (18x26 to match my rollaway) didn't get any CC discount, but sale and 10% plus free shipping (no in store pickup for anymore as far as I can tell).
8pc Metric cross force set
3pc Metric extreme wrench set, no 10%, but looks like CC discount worked.
4x GearWrench 1/4" drive pass thru sockets 6,7,8,9mm 89 cents each.

This is Sears, so don't expect it to be simple or reasonable. ;)
Sears has at least 3 moons, Sale moon, Craftsman Club moon, and special online promo moon.
Craftsman club moon is like a normal moon, every month for a few specific days it shines brightly over Sears casting a discount in the shadow of whatever items and amount the flyer for that month shows.
Sale moon appears and disappears at the whim of Sears "management" and is usually tied to local weekly ads etc.
Special Promo moon pops up from unknown origins (same as the RAT) and offers some special discount during a short period of hours, and/or with online ordering.
This sale is about all three moons being in alignment with a strange green glow coming from Craftsman Club moon giving double discounts. Does that clear it up?

When you get your Cman # you will want to enter it in your online profile on the Sears website. Cman club discounts run monthly for 7-10 days. This month it`s going all month. The advantage of ordering on line is the discounts will stack. You can order online for store pickup.

btw, not to rain on everyone's parade, but while this is a good deal, this isn't as good as the sale prices available just a week or two ago, when you got the 20%, plus $10 off $50, plus the additional 10% off. So don't go too nuts, keep some of your powder dry for the next even better sale!!!

It was $10 of $75, not $10 off $50. And you're wrong: 20% + 20% + $5 off $50 is better than 20% + 10% + $10 in mose cases.
Take a $100 order. After $5 off and two 20% discounts, the final amount is $61. For that same order, the promo you described would have been $65. During that promo a few people were seeing double Club discounts, but I wasn't and neither were other people.

Easy, calm down...we're both just trying to help folks spend their hard-earned $$$ the best way possible!
You're right that in some cases the current special is better...no argument there. But please don't say "you're wrong", and then go on to say "in most cases". In the case I was talking about, I was right...on May 4, I paid $31.67for the 8 piece Cross Force metric set (item 46521) whereas people on this thread are reporting paying $35.19 (I've ignored tax in both prices since that varies from state to state).
Anyways, I was juts trying to point out that while this is a very good deal, it's not a once in a lifetime occurrence, and that people should make sure they hold some $$$ for the next great deal you point out to us! I meant no offense, really!

Don't worry, I'm calm. I just needed to provide a counterpoint.
Last Sunday and then Tuesday again there was an extra 10% code, also resulting in a $31.67 price for the Cross Force wrenches.
Somewhere in this thread I offered commentary as to how much an extra 10% off promo would be worth and if it's worth waiting for. For the most part, it only takes off 6.4% extra off the order if the double 20% stack is taken into account.
Sorry if I came across as rude or anything like that; I was merely trying to unleash a massive umbrella over the parade. =)
My concern is that folks waiting for a better deal are going to end up regretting it. When the last 30% Gearwrench promo came and passed, I told myself I'd wait for the 40% or 50% promo that surely was to follow as before. Well, it never came and hasn't come back since, and I regret my hesitation in hindsight.

Definitely a good point...if the price is right, sometimes you need to pull the trigger! btw, for anyone unsure about the Cross Force wrenches, I do like them a lot...definitely a great deal at the current price! Don't forget that you can augment the 8 piece set with an extra 5 pieces...I'm not sure if/how the current discounts apply to the 5 piece set.

I spent a fair bit of money tonight and got 34% off the total. That included a couple of items that were not on much of a sale. It sort of makes up for the other times the Sears site has screwed me.

You're talking about item 45966, right?
How did you do that? I'm seeing 10% off, minus another $42.12 for Craftsman, for a total of $74.87. I could do another $5 off with one of the coupon codes, but that would still leave me at $69.87.
PLMK, since I have been on the fence about this set for awhile!

Ok, I am not seeing my club discount. I entered my number but no go. Anyone else having this problem?

Hmm. Ok, I got it working now. Total discount is 36%. I see the 10% as well, but still only 36%. I wonder why...

Ok, I am a maroooooon. 36% is after the 10%. Some items weren't a full 10%, but close enough for gubmint work.
Total % off was 44%. Got SAE and Metric 9 piece longs and SAE and Metric offset box.
Another question. Is the 13 piece a long pattern?

I didn't think of this in time for me, but if you have a DiscoverCard and take the link from them to Sears and then use your DiscoverCard you get 5% cash back.

Tried to fight the urge, but since these aren't available in store and shipping was free, not to mention the stacked discounts, I ended up biting on the large SAE 5-piece wrench set mentioned above. That's a hell of a discount and even though I'll rarely need them in that size, it's not like I can buy them somewhere else at this quality for that price.
Better to have and not (often) need, then to need and not have, right? Right? :bounce:
Thanks to all for posting about the discounts they were getting and especially about the extra 10% last night.

If anyone is thinking about buying the cross force wrenches, now might be the time to do so. The are 50% off right now. You also get the craftsman club discount. With all the discounts, you can get both the metric and standard for $47.98 before tax and/or shipping.

Can you get that price without being a Craftsman Club member? If so how? If not could I join now and get both sets for $47.98?

You can get the 50% off, but you won't be able to get both sets for $47.98 without being a craftsman club member. You could join the Craftsman club and get the discount. Check the first page of this thread for more information.

Got my 68 wrenches yesterday. I made 4 seperate orders and spentthe evening 'checking them out". The HUGE 1-1/2 in closed end had rust in it, and the chrome on a 15/16 inch was speckled and flaky, so they will be replaced at a local Sears. But they looked great overall.
My 19 month old daughter loved playing with them:). The offsets and stubbies are a needed addition, and the huge set will be ther when the tractor needs working on. The ratchet types are probably the 'cheaper' looking of the bunch, but are still very very nice.
Thanks to all who turned me onto this!

Stubby metrics, full-size standard and a set of deep-offset in both for far fewer dollars than I would've ever expected. Thanks, fellers.

I noticed last night that it had dropped in price. Eh, the hassle of returning it and ordering a new one isn't worth the $10 or so to me. I already had to exchage the 1st set due to two wrenches being damaged. I may just order a metric set though...
