I recently got a great deal on a ShopFox 5x6 Horizontal bandsaw. The adjustable hydraulic feed cylinder doesn't feed (I've come to believe there's a bad seal in the top). The factory said it can't be rebuilt in the garage (dunno, but I couldn't get it apart). They have a new one for $170... yikes! The whole thing cost around $750 new. That's a hefty chunk of the price.

Anybody know where to get one for something south of $100? The saw is too heavy to fall without a spring our feed cylinder--the blade defects BAD.

There's one on Ebay, but still over $100.

Or, is there anyone that can recommend a shop in the Atlanta area that can rebuild hydraulic cylinders?

Please post some detailed close up pictures of the cylinder along with the saw. Then we'll have a better idea of what you're dealing with.

If the cylinder are sealed, it will be next impossible to rebuild. But if the ends can be removed, I see no reason why it couldn't be repaired. A photo will help in determining this.

The other avenue to take would be to remove the cylinder all together. And add a moving counterweight to the bandsaw arm. By moving this weight, gravity will supply the weight to get the proper amount of feed to the cutting blade...

I've also known that a standard door closer cylinder to replace a costly cylinder on a horizontal bandsaw.

I second the need for photos.
