OK, I admit it. I am something of a vulture. I don't have many qualms about profiting from someone's misfortune. That said, I'm assuming lots of new car dealerships will be going out of business completely and liquidating their shop contents. What is the best way to find out when and where these sales and auctions will be occurring?

I too would love to find out about this. :)

I feel bad for the people involved. For the most part is isn't their fault. But for those of us with who can, this is a great time to buy.

i do not believe most of the dealerships will be completly close... majority of them also have other misc vehicles they sell such as various imports... likely that is also the reason that chevy and dodge are selecting many of them to close.... to much competition within the same dealership

I just checked this place out and I know of it. It is an independent dealership that sold higher end euro cars - they just started up a couple years ago. And they took over from a Dodge dealership that was there for many years. This place invested pretty heavily to open up a large shop and showroom, and now it is all down the drain.

You can see from Google Street View what it looks like...

Keep in mind alot of the OEM service tools are not technically owned by the dealership and alot of times if a dealer closes, etc (especially due to say a factory ordered closure) the parts, tools, etc are often sent back. We keep a inventory of all our tools and actually were just asked to inventory all our Saab tools (GM brand) in the eventuality that they might have to go back.

At the dealer auctions/sales I've been to they are generally auctioning off equipment such as lifts (that always seem to go for a retarded premium), a/c machines, etc. I did attend a Ford dealer closing that ended up being a room full of Rotunda tools (mostly OLLLDD applications) and a parts dept full of old parts (mostly oddball junk.. nothign worth having.. the worthwhile stuff was sold to another dealer I'm sure).

We have a dealer closing closing in Big Timber (it was scheduled long before the other closings) and I plan on going over there as they have a fair amount of shop equipment I want.

Thanks, I am looking for shop equipment, not hand tools or specialty tools.
