i notice there are ratchet threads, tool box threads and such. i figured i'd start a flashlight thread.
mine is a rechargible mag-lite. 65k candle power. $139 off the snapon truck 5 or 6 years ago. i think i paid $20 or $30 on it before the snapon guy was busted for selling tools and not paying his snapon bill. i have yet to recieve a bill for it. runs off a 6 volt stick battery. i replaced it a year and a half ago from batteries plus for $30. i burned a hole in someones carpet once. i accidently set it down face down and forgot to turn it off.

I’ve had the rechargeable mag-lite for about eighteen years now, actually I’m on my third one lost the first in a foot chase and the second, well lets say it wasn’t exactly used as per instructions. It also doubles as a night stick when the crap hits the fan on night tours.

I've got a few LED flashlights and like them a lot. I'm thinking of getting a 900!! lumen single LED flashlight, wicked cheap compared to where they used be just a few years ago. I think that the LED used in this flashlight is the same as the ones that are used in the Audi R8 5.2FSI as headlights (!!)

I've got the same light; had it for 10 years now. Yes, they will burn a hole in the carpet if you're not careful. Luckily, it was on a floormat, and it was a used car being reconditioned, so....it got new floormats ctsy of the used car department.

There are better quality lights than Maglite, but their warranty service is excellent. I have a couple of Streamlites that I really like, but for around the house, Maglites serve the purpose.
I used to put 6 D-Cell Maglites on my expenses, and take them to work, as (I was hopelessly optimistic), that even my helpers couldn't lose something that big, and if I did see it wandering around the rig, I would be 99.9999999999 percent sure that it was mine, especially if it was painted day glo green, or pink, of if it fell under the unit, that you stood a good chance of seeing it amid the goo.

I have probably 10-20 more lights than whats pictured, (scattered around the house and cars). A couple more SF's but most are streamlight, and various maglites.
In the pelican case...most of the right hand side lights are lasers I have made out of flashlight hosts. The lasers range from 100mW-250mW (650nm,405nm)

I have streamlight stingers all over the house and garage. Streamlight microstream lights on every set of keys. A Streamlight Strion in the console of my pickup. I have given just about everyone in my family a microstream for christmas. I also gave out a bunch of the pink nano lights for christmas to some of my better customers.
I'll see if I can dig up a pic or two of my modest arc/hds collection.
Found one:

Im\'m a sucker for a well worn arc aaa.
I picked up a zebralight head lamp for Christmas. It is a very solid little light. Great for getting under the car and not having a task light blasting me in the face or not putting the light in the right spot.

You could also go rechargable cells and if you use the light a lot, I would go that route.

SF are very addictive! Good thing I get a huge discount....otherwise It would break me. When I was living in AZ, a friend worked at Peak Beam....gave me his Christmas "bonus"....Now called the Maxi Beam. Love it!!!! Just a little to large to use everyday. :bounce: Definitely not my EDC. I use my E2DL as my EDC. But I find myself grabbing one of my Dorcy Jrs more and more. Handy how small and bright they are. I use them for my laser builds a lot. One day I found them on clearance at my local target store for less than $5 each....regular price is $21.

This is my Surefire G2 LED.......I couldn't be happier with this thing. It's extremely bright, small and lightweight, tough as nails, and lasts a long time. I end up holding the light with my mouth all the time too and the material it's made of is pretty soft, won't hurt the old teeth!
I guess the batteries (CR123's) are very expensive but its worth it. Luckily my company provides me with batteries.
The perfect flashlight I think anyways.

Here's my recent buy, a Zebralight H30:
http://www.flashaholics.co.uk/images/zebralight/review/unpacked.jpg
It gives a 80 degree even flood, great for task lighting and can be used as a headlamp handheld, or clipped to shirt pocket. It's tiny at 1 inch diameter and 2.2 inches long with 3 brightness settings. It uses a single CR123 battery ($), so I a bought a set of rechargeables for it.

Alright you guys seem to know a lot about flashlights. Perhaps I could ask advice in this thread.
I have a fenix and it's pretty good...But I hate the different modes, it always ends up blinking when I wish it was just on and in the brightest mode.
I really just want it to turn on and be bright. That's it, and maybe have a really even beam pattern with no gnarly spot in the middle.
Do I want a Surefire?:headscrat I was looking at this: http://www.knifeworks.com/surefire6pleddefender.aspx

Cant go wrong with SFs...any of the 6P line up is a good first time SF. If you can get the LED version, DO IT! I have incandescent & LED versions of the 6P, 9P (w/ a P60L drop in), and the E2D...each LED version blows the incandescent version out of the water..the beam is much brighter, the color is better, and the run time is longer. IMO
Why would you rather go with a 1.5v battery opposed to a 3v? You simply wont get the lumens out of 1.5v batteries. I know the 123s are more expensive...but you can get rechargeable.

First (you didn't hear me say this) but you shouldn't being paying more than $140 for the A2LED.
The A2L and the Fenix E20 are not fair comparisons? The A2Led is dual output with option for secondary light emitters in different colors? The A2 has a runtime of 2/15 hours. The E20 is 3.3 hours.
Build quality is good on the fenix. (don't get me wrong its a great light) But it doesn't have the build quality of SF.
For a light to light comparison you should be comparing the E20 against the SF LX2 (200/30 lumen & 2/30 hour runtime). Yes it is more expensive than the E20...but even on this light you should be able to find one for $100-$125
If price is #1 deciding factor, by an Ultrafire WF-016 with a ssc-p7 emmiter. Less than $40. Throws 220+lumens. Great runtime (3+ hours). Has a strike bezel. And a 5 mode clicky.
Biggest reason??? SF is made right here in the USA...and Fenix...well we all know where they come from. :wtf:

Ill have to get a picture of my maxabeam on here, its a flashlight on roids. A true 12million candlepower HID light....need to get a friend to test the light for a lumen output, the manufacture doesn't give lumen output out on their specs.

WTF!! Why do you need a flashlite on a gun? Military I can see, maybe, doesn't it just pinpoint a target for the bad guy? You can't hunt at night, and for that intruder in your house at night why not just turn on the lights and then shoot him, and how many intruders have you shot useing your gun mounted flashlight. How many intruders did you miss cause you didn't have the flashlight on your gun? How many intruders have you shot? Thats just way over the top IMO.

When I kill snakes I do it the manly way, with a 2 foot cutlass, I don't hide behind buckshot, 2 Bushmasters in the last ten days, a 4.5 footer and a 7 footer, the big one was scary but it was first thing in the morning so he was cold @ about 75* F. so very slow moving, also wacked over 40 Fer de Lance all with a cutlass. You don't need a gun, you need balls. & & ) on the Bushmasters and 40 & 1 on the FdL, Carpet Labarios. I don't hunt them but if I see them then they die.

Maybe you don't need one, but I did - once. That was enough for me to put one on there. I had to shoot a critter at night (copperhead) and I would much rather shoot with a long gun than a handgun, and there is no way to handle a long gun and light if it is not mounted.
Like I said, maybe it's over the top for you but it's not for me. I live in the country. Neighbors of mine have had to kill coyotes, snakes, and sometimes even (livestock killing) dogs.

http://upsidedownmoon.tripod.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/1.gif Or real world experiences....I had two punks almost break into my house. Caught them at my front door....my SF was in my non hard hand (my sigP245 in the other). The blinding light gave me the couple seconds to dominate the situation. I got one to lay down while the other ran off. In that scenario they were unarmed and right on my threshold of my front door...I got the upper hand & waited till the local PD showed up. I didn't have to shoot anyone.
If nothing else it can give you more options than who is ever on the other side of the gun & light. It would have been a questionable shooting IMO, the PD caught the other guy 20 minutes later and they both went to jail for a bit.
