I am looking for a drill press and a metal band saw(preferibly upright). I want American made tools. Anyone have any ideas of where to look. I know Ridgid makes their stuff over seas do they are out. Thanks.

If you want USA iron, the only affordable way to do that these days is watch your local classified ads, garage sales, ebay, or check with used machinery dealers in your area. Outside of that, on a home shop budget it will prolly have to come from across the pond!

Whats your budget? If your talkign a few K for each then that shouldnt be too hard to do, otherwise, check otu EBAY for used USA made equipment. Anything Made here is regarded as top notch but also very expensive.

I would rather pay more money fo the USA stuff than but the foreign units but I do not want to over do it as well. I check the papers anytime I can but don't find much. Thats why I was looking to names of some companies that would sell ones made over here

Unless you are rich, there is virtually nothing made in the US that the average Garage Junkie can afford, and probably not worth it, for ocassional use.

That is the unfortunate truth.

Just look around, you can find a used production grade machine, made in the US, in great condition, cheap. You just have to look.

If you want to shop immediatly, check used machinery dealers in your town. Ask if they know of any used dealers in the area that carry stuff sized to the home shop crowd, I did that and found a guy that sells prolly 50% to home shop guys! He has a lot of stuff USA made that is used and affordable. The only new stuff he sells that his customer base can afford comes from chiney! I bought an Atlas metal shaper and Atlas milling machine from him for $500.00 for the pair. Complete and running fine. I am going to buy a Rockwell/Delta 1970's vintage floor standing drill press from a guy a few miles from my house for $150.00. You can find good used USA stuff, it's out there, the fun is in the hunt!
