I have come to appreciate the speed that 12-point sockets allow in my line of work. I am trying to peice together an impact set in 3/8" drive. I would like to have a 21mm to take off lug nuts of that size. I have seen the sets of a few companies - Snap-on, Grey Pneumatic et. al. but I haven't seen this size. Does it exist? Thanks.

6pt sockets would give more torque and less chance of rounding. You save a second using a 12pt.

Some vehicles use 12 point nuts 30mm,32mm,33mm,36mm, This requires 1/2 drive.

12 pt. plus lug nuts???? Sounds like pain and anguish waiting to happen.
Wait, what do you work on? Do you actually encounter 12 pt lug nuts????? I never know what to expect with new cars these days....

I've seen 12 point lugs before, but not in 21mm form.
When going larger than 17 or 19mm, I get uncomfortable using 12 point sockets.

I've seen 12 point lugs before, but they dont come in 21mm form.
What were they on?
Were they aftermarket?

It was definitely aftermarket. I dont remember what brand they were, but I only saw them once maybe 5 years ago.

by the fact that you want impact sockets, I guess you want to use them on an impact wrench. The only place I use 12pt sockets is on 12 pt fasteners and when in tight quarters and having to use a breaker bar/socket combo where I have less than 60 degrees to swing. I guess what I'm wondering is, do you really save that much time on fastener engagement to the point of justifying the purchase of a specific set? Also living in New York I would guess you encounter almost as much rust as here in Michigan. Rust on fasteners to me is an invitation to be rounded by a 12pt socket.

Even the race guys use 6 point sockets because the grab the fastener with much better force. They only use 12pt on the special light weight Ti 12 lug nuts.

I do not know about that. My 1/2 inch chrome sockets are 12pt. Granted I do have a set of 6pt impacts, but I can not remember the last time I rounded a large hex bolt with a 12pt socket. Heck I even live in the grand old snow belt of Northern Indiana. Can you say lake effect snow :wtf: For me it is all about feel. If I think that a bolt is going to stick that badly I hit it with some heat if possible then try again.

Thanks for all the replies.
I don't have 12-pt lug nuts. I want to use a 12-pt socket on 6-pt lug nuts to save a second or two. If worse comes to worse, we have a bin of extra lug nuts in case one rounds (I work on fleet cars).
I guess I'll go with SO since that is how I started building this set.
