I'm having trouble deciding/picking which service kit to buy. OTC seems to have the best selection for different applications etc etc, but it gets a little confusing.:headscrat:wtf:

Anyway I've had a recent increase in requests to service ball joints, so it is time to buy the tools. I mainly work on light-medium duty trucks, but work on cars as well.

I have requests for a '96 Dodge 2500 4x4, and a 2005 Dodge 3500 4x4 - but I can't find a kit that seems to "cover" these applications. They describe different year ranges or 1/2ton.

I also do a lot of 1/2ton trucks and 2x4 trucks as well. I know OTC has the "Large Press" and they make adaptors so that the Large press will work with the "Small Press" adaptors - so I assume I need the Large Press set and?????

Anybody have experience in this or know where to find an application chart, so I can pick out exactly what sets I will need?

6530 & 8031? - Think they will cover most anything I will run into, or are cars & Fords completely different?

Thanks

you can download the instruction manuals in pdf from otc's site, it will list the applications for the adapters.

I checked there and still couldn't find what I need to do a '96 3/4ton 4x4 Dodge - one of the kits says "Dana 44 axles" and another says - 1/2ton trucks.?????

I would have to check what mine is. I got it from Matco several years ago. Was around $350 and it covers most everything.

I have used it on GM 10 bolts, D44, D30, D60, etc.

I would check into those joints. I think some are not able to be serviced. Its part of the control arm.

The complete arm need to be replaced.

I am not sure as to what years though. Its been awile.

Maybe on the 2wd stuff... I've have never touched one before.

The 4x4s are normal setup with replaceable BJs (for the 2 that he listed)

+1 for the super set. It is MUCH less expensive than the Snap on set and about as good. If the set does not have the adapter that you need, just use a 3/4in drive socket.

I bought the super set to do the ball joints in my '03 GMC and it has seen more use replacing u-joints than ball joints!
