Never thought of a drain/trap set up that way. I understand the concept and will include it in my pending garage remodeling. Thanks for the post

What do you all think about the "automatic" drains on the market.

They open when the pressure drops below 8 PSI.

The idea is that at the end of the day, you open a valve to drain off the pressure (you're supposed to do it daily) and then go about your business. When the pressure drops, it will drain and You don't have to babysit the tank.

I have an automatic drain that I got cheap from one of those Pac Rim import places like HarborFreight. Anyway, it was working fine for about 6 months until just yesterday it wouldn't close when I started up the compressor. I pulled it off, and noticed the inside had caroded quite a bit.

I guess my point is, if you get an automatic one, don't go cheap. (I find more and more this applies to everything)

ultgar... do I understand this right the tank you have posted is strictly a water trap?

Tell me that SX6 is your home sweet home compressor  Those are the best compressors made. I used to work at a place that carried Kaeser compressors and blowers. Top of the line stuff.

i have a question, when you open that, do you have somthing behind it to catch the water or does it spray all over

thats a good idea, also that compressor setup is really nice, especially since the tank is remote and doesnt get as hot it probobly condenses out alot more water before it reaches the tools

I have the same simple valve setup on the tank for my air ride in my car.
I kept having trouble with water traps. Pluss Ive used the air hose many times for helping myself and others out on the road.

I have thought about doing something similar on my home compressor. Add a hose fitting and use an old hose to run the dirty water outside the garage. I hopes of keeping the floor clean. Am I crazy?

That's a good idea gb387. I am gonna have to do something similar in my warehouse, my tank can put out quite a bit of water.

I think the hose idea running outside would work just fine.
In my trunk I can attach a hose and spray it anyplace I want or just open it up like in the pic and it sprays right out the back of the trunk.

One day whenever I buy land and build a shop I'll do the same thing.
