I have mentioned in prior posts that I bought a Crapsman 4 tons low profile jack and was able to use ony several times before it craps out. Today, I use it again and notice hydraulic fluid is leaking out. I decided to repair it thinking that the seal gone bad. It turn out it was not the seal, but the piston. It has a deep long gouge on it. I didn't think hydraulic fluid is black, but the fluid coming out is black (with only a few uses?). There are also alot of metal shavings coming out. I think that what cause the gouge in the piston. What a quality control. Anybody know if Sears sell parts for this jack.

The craftsman jacks have a 1 year warranty (return for a new one; outside the 1 year warranty, your on your own); they typically don't sell internal or rebuild parts for the jack but will sell the hydraulic power cylinder, as a unit. I used to look this info up from time to time for customers; it typically was not cost effective to by the power pack but more cost effective to buy a new jack.
You can look up what parts are available for your jack here: www.searspartsdirect.com
You need to type in the model #; the model number looks like this: XXX.XXXXXX, put the number in and see what comes up...
People typically have not had good success finding rebuild parts for the chinese offshore jacks; YMMV, you could possibly piece together a kit at a hydraulic parts house... you never know. I'm sure our jack expert can give you some good advice as well! Good luck!

Reassemble it. Return it to Sears. Tell them you noticed it was leaking and you were afraid your car was going to fall on you, but you wanted to avoid having to contact the Consumer Product Safety Commission with a safety complaint.

I did try returning/exchanging it several times, but Sears refuse since I don't have my receipt. I could not find my receipt.

Billymade......Thanks for the info. I will try to search for part once Sears site is back up. If it cost more than the jack itself, I will just buy a new jack (not a Craftsman though)

Is it still the same model/ look alike? If so, buy a new one and return the crappy one.

If it really is under a year; you can't find your receipt and they won't help you; call the Sears Customer Relations Hotline! They should be able to help you. Good luck! :)

You could find the soft parts via a hydraulic shop but finding a replacement ram or having one built will cost you more than the jack is worth. Your best bet is to put it back together and find you a customer service agent that will deal with you. I can tell by the pics that it has oil bypassing on the ram, (shouldnt) and getting by the oring on the shaft, regardless of the gouge.

Most of the Craftsman jacks are made by Shinn Fu. (not sure about yours)
http://www.shinnfuamerica.com/
It might be worth e-mailing them. Sometimes the manufacturer is more responsive than Sears.

Better brush up on your Chinese/Tawainese.
