I call this a hybrid because it has a square peg you can flip to change direction like a female ratchet, and also has a shift lever to change direction. Redundant.

It is crimped together so I can't take it apart - no screws or rings that hold it together. No markings other than a patent number of 1,902,878 on the back plate. I thought someone drilled a hole in the handle to hang it, but the more I look at it I think it came that way.

I have seen a picture of a crimped style like this before. It might have been on this message board. But I do not remember if whatever I saw had a peg and a shift lever.

Can anyone ID this ratchet? I bought it at the flea market today from a guy who is there every weekend, selling mostly Craftsman. He knows I collect old stuff and pointed it out to me. He got it from another guy at the flea market, so he knows nothing about it. I paid $8.

Construction looks similar to some Indestro that I have.

I have a 3/8 one like this that's missing the square peg that you push in to make it a ratchet. I didn't even know it was suppose to have it until I saw your pics. I don't know anything about it, I bought it at a swap meet in Charlotte, NC when I was 15. I'll try to get a pic of it to share I think it's in my toolbox at work, been meaning to show it to our Snap-On guy because he really knows a lot about vintage tools. I've always liked interesting vintage tools.

You win the prize. With the Indestro/Duro hint I went on AA and there my ratchet is. Same patent number. Just no brand name on mine.

http://alloy-artifacts.com/duro-indestro-p2.html#duro-678d

Patent was issued in 1933 for a pressed-flanged ratchet construction. Early version had 18 teeth and then went to 36. Can't take mine apart but from counting the clicks it is 18. Hole in the handle is original.

AA calls it a male and female drive.
