View Full Version : Useless Tools - Rat Shit

Ever buy a really useless tool that you thought would be great at the time of purchase? I've had this RatShit for about 20 years and never used it. It's very heavy and well made. The idea is if you don't have enough room to move the handle, you just grab the small T handle (with red caps) and twist it. Only problem is it takes so much force to move the red handle you almost need an extension bar. Also the entire wrench is so large and bulky, there are few places where it fits. Seemed like a good idea at the time. Anyone else have these ""Why did I ever buy that piece of crap" tool?

I had one too! I got $1 for it at a flea market and felt a little guilty.

I'm thinking "Useless Tools" would have been an appropriate thread title without adding the foul language after it. I hoping bmwpower edits your title or deletes this thread entirely.

What the heck? Why be so Puritanical about language? You, the guy who posts jugg pics? :headscrat
And don't get me wrong, I love those jugg pics

Appropriateness of the subject aside, I have to admit I found its pun hilarious. :spit:

I just feel that certain words you might say around the house shouldn't be said (or actually written) on a public forum, or especially in the thread title. This is not my board, but I felt the need to speak up for the people who may be too shy to do so.
Ok, I can respect that. I've taken my cue from others on here...cussing seems to be pretty frequent and not an issue. Why should it be, anyway?
Now, about those juggie pics...maybe some Karina Hart?

Utterances of vulgarities truly illuminate the character of the person speaking (or posting them).
Personally, I don't think it is that big a deal. He was trying to make a point. Not the word I would have chose, but he delivers what he promises.
Since he has not posted that much, cut him a break.... Not the first thing someone said on this board that rankled another persons opinion.

I've met VERY few people who don't swear. And I am a teacher, so I'm not hanging around with the dregs of society. The difference between good and bad character is knowing when it is ok to do so. Uttering a swear on a board overwhelmingly made up of men talking about tools and garages, and where there is precedent for the practice, does not seem like an issue.
Really, it's four letters strung together. Big deal.

Back more or less on topic, I have one of those sidewinders. Bought it to remove back plugs on a vette.
And hated it from day one.
Had to take it apart and lube it before it would even work, and as the OP says, takes a ton of force to work it.
It is right up there with the most useless tools ever.
This and the 'robo' pliers.

I have one of those sidewinder ratchets and it's a POS as previously described. I also thought what a cool thing when I bought it a garage sale. Thankfully I think I only paid like $2 for that POS.
Oh, and I don't mind the swearing. It's guy thing. As a matter of fact I quite enjoy swearing.

Sorry about title of this thread some of you thought was inappropiate. I tried to change it by removing the word "Rat", but this forum only allows you to change the content of the message, and not the title. To the moderator: feel free to change the title so as not to offend anyone. (didn't realize "Rat" was so offensive)

When was the last time that you heard of a teacher having sex with an underage person (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1028816/Teacher-accused-having-sex-pupils-school-baseball-team-faces-20-years-jail.html), or sending home a video of themselves having sex (http://www.abcactionnews.com/news/local/story/California-teacher-sends-pornography-home-with/IcsiBBt0Q06cqL_Boj3jCA.cspx)on the couch?????
Don't take this personal, but I don't consider teachers in the same light that I did when I was in school. The profession isn't what it used to be..
:lol_hitti
Now Junk, teachers are just humans, so you get the good and the bad in the profession. Like Catholic priests or police officers, I suppose.
I'd say that in your day, it was probably worse or at least as bad, just not reported.

If a word is listed in the "American Heritage Dictionary" it was allowed by my professors.
Most "mature" oriented forums seem to follow this rule.

Back to the original post, I too was taken for the price of one of those stupid sidewinder ratchets, don't remember what magazine it was that had a review of it and made it sound like the next best thing to sliced bread so I remember mail ordering it. It sits in the top of my tool box but I don't think I've ever used it, I can't even remember how long I've had it but I'm pretty sure its over 20 years.

I have that exact same ratchet! It saved my butt (is that okay to use?) a few times. Installing headers mostly. Last time I used it, around 1998 or so, I remember it wouldn't work. Being curious, I pulled it apart. The AXLE grease they used to lube it had turned to cement. A little clean up and some new grease and it works just fine. Well, it did work fine. I haven't touched it in years!

I have a set of the auto lock vice grips and the auto adjust channel locks, the cman proffesional, are those robo grip? if so I like them, they work good for holding stuff, like when I put an air fitting on a new air tool, or anything of that sort. I'm sure they'd round something off if you were using them trying to break something loose.
