I'm looking for a good mechanic's seat. How about this one? I want one that says Made in USA which this one does. Any others?

I'm not sure if this one is available anymore, but I gave $89.00 for it off the matco truck sometime around 2000 or 2001.* A guy I work with bought one off the snap on truck for the same price at about the same time.* It looks identical to mine with the exception of the logo.* At the time these were U.S. made.*

I think just about all of the U.S. made ones are made by Whiteside regardless of the brand label. I would look at the Whiteside site and compare Sears and the truck brands. The Whiteside site shows country of origin, so you can see which ones are U.S. made.

I'm sure the sears one is just as good, Dad has a harbor freight one that was on sale for $15 and is really not bad at all. He reinforced the seat pad with a piece of an old stop sign and its solid as a rock. With any chair like that though, be sure to loctite the wheels, they ALWAYS come loose.

Yup, bought the fixed height Craftsman with the back support seat as pictured above from Sears for my Dad last year. I have one also and it's great. I believe it was around $79 for the Craftsman version. The adjustable height one you listed would be a good upgrade!

I have the two of the ones the OP posted. I knew they were made by another company but found that the Craftsman ones were actually the best deal. I HIGHLY recommend the one the OP posed. Very high quality and comfy.

This is kinda old school and without allot of back support but I own one of these; it has held up well with no problems, since the early 90s! It has a retro look to it and probably wouldn't look out of place in a 40s or 50s era shop! :)

I just saw this one (Sears item # 51828) on sale at the local Sears. It was marked down from $79.99 to $29.99.

I have that same seat in my shop and it is great. The rollers are well made and the seat covering is very durable. I like this seat style better than the ones with the seat backs.
$29 is a heck of a deal on this well made stool that will last a long time:thumbup:

Here's mine. My dad had it for years. I found it behind his barn. It had a handfull of cheap tools in the seat. I don't know how long it sat outside. But I like how low it is. You can do a brake job and not bend over. It's right there in front of you. I'd like to find a new seat for it. It is a Borg-Warner fiberglass seat. It is starting to crack.

For road work, I carry a empty 5 gal bucket. Tool box in one hand, extra tools, rag, parts in the bucket in the other hand. When I get to the machine to work on, I empty the bucket and sit on it. Actually quite comfortable.
