Cheap alternative for drawer liners that WORK!

My wife and sister ro-sham-bowed me the other day, tricking me with promises of food and beer. They decided that they were making a "stop" on the way at a baby furniture store.
So out of sheer spite, I went into this store called 5 below which was like a $ store but everything was $5 or less. I had never been in there before, but it looked better than the alternative so I kept an open mind.

Glad I did! I found Yoga mats that they sell for $5 each. They measure 24"x68" and have a very nice "grippy" texture to them. The available colors are a little on the undesirable side, but I found two rolls of dark blue so I can live with that. The thickness is perfect and they seem to have a pretty durable surface.
Just thought I'd pass it along, these things are awesome for drawer liners. Sears and other places sell liner rolls half the size for 3 times as much and while the Harbor Freight cheap stuff seems to hold up ok, this stuff seems like will have a much better surface and is easier to cut to size.

On a side note, I also got a dry erase board and a pack of dry erase markers for $4 more dollars:bounce: That place is pretty cool. Allot of junk, but mixed in with all that, you can find some cheap stuff that a little imagination can take along way:beer:

Never liked that stuff that is too "grippy". My standard is ribbed rubber (vinyl?) hallway runners, cheap, thin and easy to cut to size. Comes in black or brown last time I looked for it.

X2 on vinyl floor runner; it doesn't bunch up, is indestructible and you could degrease it, very durable.... probably the last liner you would ever buy for your box. I got my at Lowe's in the carpet section...

How thick is the foam? I'm looking for something to shadow my box with, and if it's thick enough this would be a great cost effective way to go

I had shag carpet in on of my older box's and loved it. sadly it get's dirty, My Gf did not like me washing it in the washing machine.

+1 on the yoga mats- I posted something about finding them at a discount clothing store several months back, they work great and were definitely cheap enough.

Someone said they were worried about themholding moisture, but I have not had that problem at all.


Oh, and R6- the yoga mats are fairly thin- maybe 1/4" thick max, so they would not work for shadowing.

I have used that ribbed mat stuff but found that it is not grippy enough and tool slide or roll around when opening and closing the drawers. I have eyed my girfriend's yoga mR for use as drawer liner- she was not amused.

I like to use those black ribbed carpet runners from Home Depot. They come in like 5 and 6 ft rolls. They work well to hold tools in place.

The mat that I got is 4mm thick (a little thicker than 1/8"), but you can get thicker one's for a little more money. My wife has one that's like 3/4" of an inch foam.
These one's are made by "Pure Fitness" and when I say "grippy" I mean that they are textured, not sticky. I like having liners that keep the tools where I put them. I don't want my stuff rolling all around when I open and close the drawers.
Most Yoga Mats are designed to "wick" away moisture rather than absorb it. These seem to be the same way. Either way, for $5 a roll I'm thrilled with them so far.
