OK...
I took a little time away from the tools and feel very refreshed.....
Today I picked up a 6HP 60 Gallon, 22OV, Made in USA Campbell-Hausfeld compressor (10+CFM) and a MAC tools toolcart (Yellow to match my Cornwell Toolbox!!!) It included a locking prybar and screwdriver attachment and a shelf attachment. All for $280....
The point is, Why do companies advertise 'OIL FREE' like it is the greatest thing since sliced beer and canned bread :lol_hitti
It seems like advertising people found a way to make something that isn't that great, sound like a great advantage.

Oil free is Ok for pumping up bike tires or inflating beach balls.
The noise is terrible.
Oil less is also ball-less.

I had no idea my Campbell Hausfeld oil-less was such a worthless piece of junk. It's fired up and worked without complaint for 15 years since I bought it.
Beach balls??? :headscrat For me it does everything from demolition to painting, but I admit I've never tried it on a beach ball.

I don't like my oiless as much as I'd like an oiled V twin 80 gallon 2 stage, but its a 95 or 96 and its just a 15 gallon oiless CH and runs like a champ and does everything I ask it to, except for die grinders...they're rape it after a few minutes of constant use, they definitly are loud, but they really aren't bad, or atleast the CH ones aren't...the HF ones suck I do know however....but oiless get a bad rap from the low cfm output/noisey operation, nothing to get upset over.

That compressor looks like it is "All hat and no cattle". big tank 3 couplers and a what looks like single cyl oilless compressor.
Bolster, I think the complaints most have about oilless compressors are they make a tremendous amount of irritating sound and don't last as well as cared for oil bath compressors (yours seems to be a welcome exception)

How do you figure that is a 6hp compressor?
I have the same exact thing rebranded as Husky and my Dad has that same exact CF and they are bought 3 hp with those same CFM #s.

Nice cart and great deal!! YOU SUCK!
Was there a supplier that makes these carts for all of the big brands? I have a cornwell cart that is identical to this. I have also seen this cart branded Mac and Matco, I think, as well as possibly a craftsman varation.

That compressor is not oil-less. It's a single stage, two cylinder oiled unit. I have the exact same one myself.
It's also 3HP like nate379 said.
Here's the Amazon link where I bought mine back in 2006. I paid about $250 shipped!

I guess I did not clearly articulate that I know the difference between an OIL-FREE and one that uses oil. I should have been clearer and stated that I would now no longer be using my Craftsman OIL-FREE Compressor.
As for the 3 HP....
Here is why I thought it was a 6HP Version:
Exhibit A: The sticker
http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w209/blacknwhitepit/haus001.jpg
Exhibit B: The model number
This site also says this model number is a 6HP version. And it is an exact match to mine.

However, Being only a 15 amp model (Didn't really notice it yesterday) I do seriously doubt it can reach above 3.5 HP....

Unless you really need that CFM this one is a right at half the price (with a 10% off coupon from the moving packet at the post office) and it's made in the USA except the Emerson motor which was made in Mexico according to the sticker on the one I saw.

A little backstory on the Legal settlement regarding the horsepower these were marked with.
Since this Compressor was made before 2004, it has the :lol_hitti "Inflated" HP Rating!!
http://www.lawcash.com/attorney/3392/campbell-hausfeld-devilbiss-air-power-ingersoll-rand-coleman-powermate-inc-lawsuit.asp
The parties have reached a tentative nationwide settlement apparently valued at $40.6 million in several class actions filed against Campbell Hausfeld, DeVilbiss Air Power Company, Ingersoll-Rand Company, Ltd., and Coleman PowerMate, Inc., on behalf of all persons in the U.S. who, between August 1, 1996, and January 30, 2004, purchased an electric air compressor manufactured, imported, licensed, or distributed by any of the named companies which identified on its label a horsepower that is not continuous running horsepower. The action alleged that the defendants misrepresented their electric air compressors as having higher horsepower than they actually produced, in violation of Illinois consumer protection laws. Claim forms must be submitted by October 21, 2004, to be considered valid
Did anyone here get a settlement? :lol_hitti

That MAC cart is made in China. I have the same one in blue. I was mighty pissed when I saw the Made in China stamping on its underside.
What's this oil free/oil less stuff? I don't get it. How can a compressor run without oil to lubricate the piston?

Yes, I bought a Craftsman Pro oil lubed compressor in April of 04 when we bought our house. Per the settlement, I could choose from 2 - 25' rubber air hoses, a 3 piece set of tiwanese air tools, or something else. I took the 2 hoses.

Oil less compressors have a piston that consists of a flat disc with a rubber membrane that moves inside a tin cylinder liner. The connecting rod is mounted directly to the flywheel on the motor with a bushing. There is also a plastic fan blade attached to the flywheel. This is all enclosed in the plastic housing surrounding the motor and pump. Oil less compressors are direct drive and thus run 1750rpm all the time, where as a belt driven compressor is usually running at a slower rpm than the motor.

I have an OLD Craftsman oil-less pancake compressor. It has had the livin' S--t beat out of it. Gets used just about every day for my nail guns. I'm embarrassed to think of when the last time I drained the tank was. It has been overheated, frozen, run on its side, upside down, dropped, rolled. Quit on a job one day, it was a reed valve broken (one leaf). I epoxied the leaf to the valve plate and put it back together and ran it till the new part showed up! Then one day it quit again...figured I was going to get to buy myself a new one but I got curious as to why and took it apart... burned up motor brush. I had some carbon brushes for a Milwaukee drill or something like that. A little quick work on a disk sander to re-size the brush and it was running again. I think that brush is still in there! Oil-less compressors are typically noisy and run at high speed because of their small displacement but they have their place and they are a great starting point for an air system that wont see much maintenance and requires really clean air.
I never could understand why people get all hung up on the HP ratings of air compressors. The true parameter of functionality is the delivery volume and pressure. Just look at the cheapest compressors out there...they will print the over-rated HP numbers in big print all over the box but you won't even find a CFM rating anywhere in the specs!
