Hi,

I have a used tool box that I got and took apart the drawers and slides and cleaned them as they were all full of crap. Now that they are clean what kind of lube should I use on the friction slides?

Thanks,
Rob

I use 3 in 1 oil on the ones on my Cman boxes, really makes a difference. The thinner oils seem to work the best and put several drops along the track.

Use a light oil on friction slides.

Contrary to what the other posters said, I always use a grease and it seems to work well. It's smooth and it lasts a long time.

I just used garage door lube and it worked wonders on my Cman box

I think grease or light oil can both work fine.

I've used air tool oil and it's worked well. With light oil, you need to do it every so often...maybe 2-3 times a year. With grease you can do it and forget about it for a long time.

I think chainsaw bar oil works really well.

My experience with grease on friction slides is that the slides just slice their was through the grease, defeating the whole purpose.

Use a good syn grease just wet the slides with it do not put to much. The slides are under load and oil is not the proper lube as it just gets pushes out of the way. Grease creates a cushion for the slides to act on instead of metal on metal contact. Syn grease will not leach out and dry up like the lithium grease most likely stock on the slides.
