Thought I'd start a thread for this topic. May be helpful for someone having to deal with HOA's.
Here's a recent event.

I had to look at a guys proposed garage the other day and after we talked about his proposal and my existing garage and how I added a building to the back of mine I thought I'd share this.
I just added the building behind mine for the garden tools and the air compressor. Luckily my garage is off the set back line some. This guy was going to put his right at the set back line. I asked him if he might ever want to add somthing like I did and he said maybe. Well you better move that garage off the line by several feet or you probably won't get the addition approved later. :see:
It was much easier to move 4 stakes in the ground than a 24 x 30 building. Now he has room for additions if he so chooses.
Point being, think down the road. A nice dream garage can make you think you'll never need more. Give yourself some wiggle room.

Geez, seems everyone wants to add one lately. This request came from a perspective buyer. He's looking at a large 2 story Brick colonial for sale in the neighborhood. But before he buys he wants approval for a detatched garage. He submitted a 24 x 24 sided garage with a low pitched roof.
By restrictions our outbuildings have to be of similar design and like materials. This adds considerable cost as he'll need brick, a higher pitched roof and architectual shingles. He did the smart thing and asked first, others have not and it's been a battle at times.
So check restrictions closely before you buy.

When I had my 24X30 two story garage built I told the contractor to rough in an 8' wide window on the back wall. After it was roughed in I told him I changed my mind and to just stud in the opening. I marked the location of the opening for when I wanted to add on. I later added a 10X20' room to the rear of the garage. I put a 8' roll up door in the opening to close of the opening of the new tool room.

Do any of you live in a subdivision with speed humps?
What's your opinion of them?

These things should be outlawed, and yes I drive a very low car. (98 Camaro SS)

I also have a 2004 Dodge Ram 4x4 2500 long bed and I dont even slow down for them when driving this beast,
