Wheeled Racks

This is one item that I am really glad we discovered before we built our new place. Our local Sam's Club started carrying these wire racks with wheels a couple years ago, and we decided that they would be an excellent way to organize and store all kinds of things. We now have over a dozen of them in the garage, the storage space above the garage, and in the basement. They have 6 shelves that can be placed at any height, that are rated for 600 pounds per shelf (I haven't tested THAT aspect!) They go for about $70 apiece, and have been an absolute Godsend since I needed to move things around quite a bit during the construction process. Sorry that the picture isn't better, but you can at least get an idea of what they look like.

Sam's & Costco seem to have pretty decent stuff for the garage.

I to have one of those shelving units. And the wife has the stainless matching table, for the kitchen, but I'm still trying to con her out of it to use next to the car when i'm working on it for the parts and tools. It is the perfect height.

Our Sam's has those other items too (very tempting :thumbup: )
For a few weeks in 2003, they even carried wine racks in the same style (but obviously a smaller format) as the large wheeled racks.....so I bought several and put them together in our basement to create a 9' x 9' storage system. I've never seen them since, and we're really glad we jumped and got them when we did!

damn, all that wine is cool as hell. i get some wine catalogue in the mail with all kinds of amazing wooden shelving systems, they are super expensive though.

i've been toying with the idea of a walk-in humidor for some time now. that would be the ultimate in my opinion.

This shelving is NSF approved and it's the same stuff that you buy through restaurants for close to $400. apiece. Groit's Garage catalog had them by the piece for close to $900. per set. If you have a catalog check it out. They sold the shelves, legs, wheels etc. separately and it totaled to a ridiculous amount. I pitched the catalog in the garbage after that. COSTCO, Sams and BJ's all sell them... Great shelving.
I've bought close to 12 of the shelves over the past five years...


Non-NSF shelving is available at Bed, Bath and Beyond in colors for bathrooms and closets.

I love that shelving. I bought mine from Lowes. Used it in my room for a while, and now it's in the garage.

It is not the same, although it is similar. The stuff sold at Sams, Wal*Mart, etc is a made in China ripoff of the original product.

"Good prices" come with the added benefit of sending good jobs overseas.

No, we've never made our own wine but we have made our own beer which we store on the wine racks as well (22oz. bottles).

I have like a dozen of them, they are great, and other stuff just sucks once you get used to them. Typical plastic storage racks are not rigid, the posts take up a lot of the shelf space, and being on wheels gets hard to live without.

For serious loads the cheap plastic wheels should be replaced with something stronger, and if you have anything except perfectly flat floors, larger diameter wheels are easier to roll over cracks etc. with heavy loads.

I use them in my storage unit, permanent shelves on both sides and to totally pack the place I roll in these racks to fill the middle.

I weigh 240 lbs and have walked on the shelves, but for max loads I would put down a layer of plywood or particle board flooring to spread the load evenly on the wire shelf.
