I saw a Craigslist ad today. Snap on toolbox listed in one ad, parts washer in another one.

He wanted $100 for the Snap on box and $50 for the parts washer (HF variety)

I sent an email, but got no response.

Checked CL later in the day and noticed he had now changed his ad and given his phone number.

I called him and told him I was interested in some of his items. He agreed to meet with me at his house at 6:30 PM

I got an early start and made it to his house well before 6 PM. As I was driving around I realized I was in the middle of CRACK Central.

I was getting stared at for my slow driving by several of the people in the neighborhood because I was looking for his house address...

I drove by his house early and he was not home. Sooo..

Went to the local deserted strip mall that had only a pawn shop and a Family Dollar still in business. Noticed several people go in the Family Dollar with no shirt on, they did not come out anytime soon... I guess that was no issue.

Watched a drug deal go down in my rearview while I waited.... I figured they didn't think I was a cop by my obvious bad placement and that I was in a truck... Anyway... I waited a while

Finally drove back to his house and saw the Snap on box and a like new HF parts cleaner... I asked what was the best price he could do and he said he was as low as he possibly could go.. I even though I thought that $150 for both was a very fair price.

Got the Snappy box home and cleaned it up a bit, The drawers in this thing really glide nicely, except for the top one. I removed the drawer and found out why... A bent slide.... NP I just need to call my Snappy man.

I removed the bottom drawer (To find all the stuff that people lost) and pulled out a long Made in USA 3/8 MAC ratchet. (That was a nice surprise)

Anyway this box is in pretty good shape... I won't give the model number so that Lookin4'67Galaxieconv can guess it. But I will give this hint. It was made in a year popularized by the rock group Smashing Pumpkins.

Here are some pics of the Parts washer... He said it was used once... I actually believe him.

I don't think that these were stolen by his demeanor.... He was working at a transmission shop (had the shirt on) and said that he had bought another box... I asked if he had bought it off the truck and he said he just had... Good for him....

But as I cleaned the Snap on Box it became obvious to me that this box was well taken care of (except for the last 2-3 years of its life (My Humble Opinion)), and was given to someone who did not take care of it.

I hung these MAC socket holders to remind me of old times!!!!

I tried to get a couple drawer slides for my old snappy and they aren't to
be had(at least thru Snap On). I carefully bent them back but the force
required made me wonder how the hell they bent them in the first place.
What are the #'s stampe on yours?
My Snap On buddy was a little shocked he couldn't get the slides, told the
district rep he was gonna have to warranty the whole box...

BTW Nice Score!

FWIW, I've successfully straightened many bent slides. It ain't rocket science. You got nothing to lose, so use the eyeball, swing the hammer.

thnx, jack vines

Code on the slide is:

8-1257

I think I could bend it back, but really don't want to if I don't have to.

I hope they still make them.. On a box like this, I figure that this is a very common slide (I hope) :headscrat

Damn, BWP, I've never found anything that good in a toolbox!

ha ha! Well, I have the same box, 7 drawer rollaway. Mine was made in '84 and I believe it's a KRA 557. I got mine for $100 too, in a roundabout way. I bought mine with a KRA 537 top box, the Rick Mears box, but NOT the one I restored in an earlier thread. Both boxes were $400, then I sold the Rick Mears box for $300. :)

So I'll say 1979 KRA 557.

I don't think that these were stolen by his demeanor.... He was working at a transmission shop (had the shirt on) and said that he had bought another box... I asked if he had bought it off the truck and he said he just had... Good for him....

I was wondering about that, esp. with the story of getting there and the surroundings.

Okay BWP, how many toolboxes do you have total now? I bet you have more than me...and I have about 15! :shocking:

Yep, you're right b/c the top one is KR 537A. Yes, it is a sickness...but for $100 I wouldn't pass that deal up either. :) A lot of people like to turn their noses up at friction slide boxes, but I've never had a problem with them.

I've got a printout of the parts sheet from Snap On's website for that box. The drawer slide for the top drawer is $6.80 if you order it from them, postage paid.

If you count roll cabs, middle boxes, top boxes and side boxes seperately, I've got 21.

3 macs, 1Lista, 2 vidmars, 3 vulcan, 1 cornwell, 1 matco, 1 blackhawk, 2 craftsman, 1 homak, 6 snap on

All are used, some nice, some well used and a couple rough. Most will be sold sooner or later.
