I think it's the same as the Thorsen one that Northern Tools and Harbor Freight has.

I don't understand why there is a magnet on the handle

Possibly... If it is made in USA, it won't be the Thorsen one...

I saw the Asian made Thorsen one at Harbor Freight last year. The Craftsman version sure looks like it, and even has the same type of packaging.

Maybe I'll trade in my original dog bone for the new version when it shows up at my local Sears....

Is the original one made in the US if so, then I would buy it from you.

I have a couple of those around somewhere.

i think one is an old Craftsman and its US?

The other is made in Japan but I don't remember the brand?

I would probably part with both if any body is interested. I see if I can find them and post some pics.

I *may* buy it for grins and giggles if it's on sale. Maybe $12 is what I'd risk.

Looks like it could come in handy, but then again an adjustable wrench would probably be just as suitable.

They had a whole bunch of the thorsen ones for a special a couple months back, at my store they sold out pretty fast. I wondering if it was a test run to bring back the rebaged craftsman?

No I don't care much for them either. IMO they're just another way to inflict injury. Probably less painful to just run your knuckles over this and save the money on the wrench.

I don't see the usefulness in the design. I'll pass. Hopefully they haven't stuck the Craftsman name on a chinese made wrench.

I suppose this will make the original dogbones drop off drastically in value. They were bringing $40 plus dollars on e-bay just a month ago.

great for oil change shops. They specialize in stripping drain plugs

I read somewhereon the net they are used for oil changes , the magnet is to keep it stuck on the lift so it's allways ready for use . I bought an sae and a metric at tractor supply on clearance for 8$ each. they stay in my road bag as a secondary set.:)

I went this afternoon to my local Sears mall store to take a look at both the Craftsman dog bone wrench and the 6 piece universal wrench sets. The pictures and descriptions for both hand tools can be found here: www.craftsman.com/innovation. I believe that the Craftsman dog bone wrench is the same as the Thorsen model since both are made in China. In addition, both Craftsman models of the universal wrench sets are made in China as well.

I believe a new pattern is emerging at Sears in terms of the country of origin of Craftsman hand tools. First, the tap and die sets are switched from being made in the U.S. to China. Next, the above new hand tools are manufactured in China. I think in the next year or two, the Craftsman mechanic's ratchet/sockets sets and combination wrench will no longer be made in the United States. Very sad indeed :(

Yes, Sears and Craftsman are on their way out for sure, I have resigned myself to that fact. There will be no reason to buy their stuff once it is all sourced from China, we can get that at HF, and they do it better, they have been making crappy tools for decades whereas Sears is just now trying to figure out how to make crap tools for moderate prices. I think I would prefer to buy crap tools from the king of the crap tool makers, HF! A little at a time their entire line is going to crap, first it was the big stationary electric tools, then the portable electrics, now they are working their way to the core, the hand tools, give them another 3-5 years at the very most and they will be done, that might be generous too!

Craftsman going to ROC manufacture is another reason I won't buy any Craftsman tools after the BE and circle H series.

I haven't been in a Sears store since they let me go about 10 years ago!

Nope ... my toothpaste says "made in mexico" on it

as for the dogbone ... i was going to pick one up for a secondary "set" in my trail tools. i think it could come in handy.

I used to have a similar style "dogbone" wrench that my Dad attached to my ten-speed bicycle back in the 70's. He worried because I rode that bike everywhere. The wrench was kinda useless. In some cases it was better than nothing.
