We've got separate boards for flooring, heating and tools...how about a board area dedicated to workbenches and storage solutions?

Add me to the list too.

I have 74 days (until closing) to figure out my plan of attack for the garage in our new house. Storage (on a budget) will be a top priority.

We've been there done that,, the majority prevailed with fewer categories winning.

Maybe not to my liking, I’d prefer to see more special topic areas. It’s my opinion things would be more organized and easier to locate with separate sections for storage solutions, lifts, air compressors, garage doors and openers, etc.

I think that is a good idea as well.:+1:

I like the storage add on, but would have to say we don't need the multitudes of things like others suggested. I think with too many areas, you get tunnel vision on what's available . . . I don't have time to ready thru ten different forum areas and go "hey, that's a good idea". I already have an air compressor, so I probably wouldn't go down that if it was a seperate area, but someone might have good ideas on air tool storage, line drops, or whatever. On some forums it makes sense (turbo vs. N/A or specific manufacturer areas for PWC), but here I think it would add nothing.

I'm pretty new at this forum, but to me it makes even more sense to have a section dedicated to storage than it does to have a section dedicated to heating and AC (just for example).

For instance: 90% of people working out of a garage attached to a house probably never change the heating/AC situation (beyond a window unit, if needed), but 100% of the people who work in a garage of any size have issues with what to put where and how to efficiently use space and still have their stuff accessible.

Just my $.02. Love the board, and I've already got lots of great ideas (some of which I hope to be able to afford sometime in 3007, but still...) from here, storage forum or not. :D

A good reason to have heating and flooring as separate sections is that those can be "one time events". Once the heat is installed and the floor is surfaced, you might not have any interest in hearing more about "which brand of epoxy is best". This takes them out of the general garage section and makes it easier to view when you are at the flooring and heating stage. The other frequent topics that come to mind in this category would probably be garage doors/openers and possibly lifts.

As far as storage, I haven't made up my mind. Someone pointed out that most of us are continually dealing with storage issues and would be interested in most posts related to that. That makes it a good candidate to stay as a general posting topic. However, since we have many posts about specific storage solutions (i.e. Sams/Costco SS toolboxes), could also argue that it would be better as a separate area.

Since Ryan took the helm, I've been following HAMB too and I do like the way they do things there (few categories and moderators that move items after a while). This might or might not work for us, but I don't know how hard it is to do and how hard it would be to get moderators with the time and dedication to keep it up.

I'd also like to say KUDOS to Ryan for his efforts and for keeping this true to our Garage Junkie roots. Great job!

I agree, that would be a good addition to the board in a seperate section.

Formerly for it, but not now. In a related thread I shared that I would now have a greater interest in a section dedicated to project plans, only pictures etc. much as you find when visiting a yahooo group.
