I have recently installed a new photo script on my website that you might want to take a look at. It is called Lightbox (http://www.huddletogether.com/projects/lightbox2/). It makes viewing images in a web page very easy.
You can see examples of it at: Lotus Elan S2 (http://www.lotuselan.net/publish/article_365.shtml).
Each of the images on this page is a thumbnail of a larger picture. I used to have the same as the forums, click on a photo and it opens a new browser. This approach is much nicer from a usability perspective.
One nice feature is you can set up to view all the pictures within a html page. I am using this on my forums to allow people to quickly look at the pictures that are in serveral postings. It is a very clean install that degrads gracefully for non-javascript browsers.
