New to the board, so I thought I would contribute something. I bought this set a couple of months ago on a whim and thought I would share my experience. I love it. It is absolutely one of the best things I have bought in some time. Its a bit out of the price range for the average DIY'er , but if you wrench for a living its well worth the money. No more questionable compression fittings on brake lines or ungodly amount of time flaring the line only to discover you left the fitting off:lol_hitti. Ive used most of the adapters and all have turned out awesome

Plus they sell all kinds of adapters including a 37' flare set for AN fittings which is great if your also into racing.

I searched around a bit and this is where I ended up buying it from

If you add up all the different fittings you can do with it and what those different sets cost, it turns into a damn good deal.

I've been watching ebay. I have an entire vehicle to replace EVERY brake line on. I refuse to do it without one of these.

After a bit of practice(well, a *lot* of practice!) I can make a useable flare with a cheapie kit borrowed from autozone, although I own an american made KD.

The trick for me was to have the rod extend just a hair *less* than the button ridge, and when doing the second flare don't crank down as hard as possible.

That said, the mastercool kit is niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice!!!!

I dreamt about it while doing many, many flares for my hotrod.

The prep also takes way longer than it does to do the flare.

I used pre-flared lines whenever possible, which wasn't all that much.

oh and X2 on spending an ungodly amount of time doing a flare and forgetting the fitting!!!! You'd think just doing that once would learn you, but nooooooo. Or its close relatives, bending the line without securing the fitting so now you can't get it to the end you want, or putting a flare on a line after installing an *extra* fitting, so it now hangs loose on the brake line!

I learned a lot, but I'm so glad I'm done with those.

I have had the Mastercool kit for a few years now, and it is awesome! I dont do a lot of flaring, but when I do, the lack of aggravation and time wasted using a traditional flaring tool made the investment well worth it.

If you do fuel or brake line repair/replace, this is the only one to get. After you get it, you'll wonder why it took you so long to buy!!

After you get it, you'll need to get a ratcheting tubing cutter too!

It took me a while to convince myself that I needed it, but I was in the market for a better set, plus I wanted all the metric and ISO bubble flares as well. Those 2 sets alone from the tool truck cost over $200. The gm quick connect came in handy when I had a rusted/split line. When you're flat rate time saved is money earned and I think it easily paid for itself in aggrevation in the first 2-3 brake line repairs.

Johnny, you think cranking down too hard with a traditional set is bad, the first time I did a flare with this tool in nearly cut the flare off because it pinched it so tight. I had to redo it...which took less than a minute

Once you use that Mastercool set you will never want to use any other flairing tool, it is the nicest tool I have ever used and would buy another one in a heartbeat.

I hate you. I finally got a folding chair so I could sit down while I was doing all my flaring prep, etc

That thing does bubble flares and everything?

Man that thing is pricey, but it sure woulda saved me trips to the parts store and a lot of time.

Its hard to justify for a backyard hack like me, but what a timesaver. If I did brake lines more often it'd totally be worth it.
