I need a long barrel air hammer the criteria in order of importance are:

1) domestically made / orderable online / comes with a quick release

2) less noisy operation

3) cost

4) preferably not a kit, just the tool

Anyone have one of those SK ones and are they any good? thanks.

The brand Sioux popped into my head as soon as I read the thread title; they'd be the ones I looked at first.

I've had good luck with this one over the years. You'll have to buy a set of Old Forge bits though, as the ones in the kit and real expendable. The kit is the same price as the hammer alone, and the bit retainer is worth getting the kit.

+1 on the CP:thumbup:

I have an old model #4444 that has been great.

Never tried any of the new CP stuff, only because all my old stuff still works great.

I almost was able to get an American Rodcraft long barrel, they are German I know but they would be the only exception. I have an Ingersol short barrel which is at the minimum 40 years old and still poppin, however there were some very bad reviews of the IR long barrels on Amazon, reviews which I give creedence to [but have since been removed - very interesting!]

I wasn't paying $400 for the snap on one.. I could care less where it's made

I brought the snap on summer sale set.. so I owe him quite a bit of money

I go the cornwell today to replace my less than stellar mac air hammer. The antivibe makes a difference, its fairly quiet, and very strong, almost as strong as the snap on while not being nearly as loud.
It is not made in usa tho.

I am still more than satisfied with it. It is about half the price of the snap on with a 2 year warranty from my Cornhole guy

The 4444 is an aircraft riveter, not just an air hammer. Air hammers are not as controlable as riveters, which allow the user to tease the trigger for smooth and proper riveting.

Believe me.. I have PLENTY of money going to usa companies.. My snap on credit is for 3 years now.

Quality tool is a quality tool.. If it's a pos i'll buy the snap on one.

the cornwell one for around $130 is an awesome one. i have one that is near new and my dad has the same one but its pushing 7 years and he uses it on a daily basis. absolutely nothing wrong with this one for sure. i would like to point out that the set screws that hold the chuck on don't grab or snug the metal after the first 10 times of use. the set screws are brobably too small and need larger ones. (chuck starts to unscrew its self over time)

I will put in another vote for the Snappy PH3050. I bought mine from a guy getting out of the business and have never regretted it. Stronger by far than any other air hammer I have ever used or owned. My old MAC crapped out and I bought an El Cheapo Northern Tools air hammer to get by with and started hunting for a good used Snap-on. It took 4 months before one cropped up at a good price ($75.00).

those snap on branded ones are so dang loud though, but yes they are very powerfull.

the blue point ones they use to make (not sure if they still do) are the best for the money by far for a new one

New here but I just yesterday got one of the SK Proguns to replace a couple of old cheapies. It's relativly quiet and powerful (Cut through a piece of 1/8" thick steel)

The downside is the box is stamped made in tiawan.

I wonder how that Progun compares to the Cornwell one, can anyone offer an opinion?
EDIT: upon closer inspection, they look like the exact same thing!
