This is a drawer by drawer photo gallery (I had to do this for insurance purposes). The rollaway is a KRL1004 quad bank. The top chest is a KRL1201, and the locker is a KRL1012. I am planning to get the matching riser for the stainless steel top sometime later this year.

For those of you that may be wondering, yes I have used almost every tool in these boxes at one time or another.

Enjoy!

Seriously, though, that is absolutely insane!!!!! I hope you two have a very comprehensive insurance policy! Any idea how much you have invested in this little hobby of yours?!

Never again will I have the slightest twinge of guilt for blowing $20 on some vintage ratchet! Thank you for liberating me.:)

Are you a snap on dealer? That is rediculous. You have more tools in that box than all of the tools in a 5 bay shop I work at. That is NUTS.

The job that allows me to own all of these tools is that I am an information technology director of operations. I was an mechanic in high school and before I went to college.

That sure is a lot of tools, but I just have to ask, whats with the hammers?!
You never know when you need to be gentle and not use the BFH!! I admit I have gone a little overboard with the hammers. Did you notice the Fisher Price plastic hammers? My kids added those.

I never suggested that all of my tools are Snap-on. I have 4 Sata HVLP paint guns and 3 Hutchins sanders. I buy and use what works for me and sometimes Snap-on doesn't make it. I have a very good business relationship with my Snap-on dealer. He calls me to buy stuff when he is having a slow week!

Remember, Snap-on has a lifetime warranty on most of their tools (pneumatic and electronics excluded). Most of my tools I bought through eBay or local pawn shops. I have never paid dealer list price for anything. I have bought used, worn stuff and warranteed them for new. I bought the quad box through eBay; that was my best deal ever.

Clearly!

Most of my tools I bought through eBay or local pawn shops. I have never paid dealer list price for anything. I have bought used, worn stuff and warranteed them for new. I bought the quad box through eBay; that was my best deal ever.

The only thing better than having good tools is getting said tools at a bargain.

I have other Snap-on stuff that is not in the pictures. I have a small cart, creeper, seat creeper, 2 reel lights, stool, and mig welder.

The "how" & "why" of your collection is purely secondary. You have a hobby which is clearly important to you, and have amassed the most impressive (and, may I say, sexiest) collection of mechanics tools I have ever seen. You seem to have done so on-the-cheap (relatively) too, and that makes it even better.

And, should you ever suffer a sharp blow to the head, and decide you want to divest yourself of your collection, you might very well make money on the deal. How many people can say that of their hobby?

Wait why is buying used worn out tools and warrantying them fraud? If the tool has a lifetime warranty and wears out why does it matter who exchanges it--shouldn't make any difference. The only difference is the percieved value of a tool that is "worn-out" being less than a new tool by someone unfamiliar with their options.

Obviously things like intentionally breaking tools to get a new one w/ nice finish, upgrade to a new model, etc is fraud as is turning in fake broken tools for the warranty to get a real one. (I'm unfamiliar w/ the Snap-On warranty terms, I suppose they may say original purchaser, etc)

I certainly hope you are not suggesting that what I have done is fraud. There is nothing fraud about it. Snap-on's warranty is lifetime for certain tools regardless of the owner. All three of the Snap-on dealers I have bought from over the past 12 years have encouraged me to buy from other sources and warranty anything damaged or worn. If i have something worn, I take it to the dealer and have them make the call on if it should be warranteed or not.

Snap-on tools always have cost more than any other tools manufacturer; their high prices are nothing new (totally discounts your suggestion of higher prices because of "fraud"). They have built and are selling a perceived brand image.

Pete

I certainly hope you are not suggesting that what I have done is fraud. There is nothing fraud about it.

Actually, I am. You, and innumerable others, are using the system of dealer warranty replacements to gain new tools without paying Snap-on for them. The dealers know that's an essential part of maintaining business, but it used to be a tacit arrangement, rather than one on such lavish public display.

Obviously that drives prices up.

Snap-on's warranty is lifetime for certain tools regardless of the owner.

Their terms of sale neither state nor imply transferability beyond the "Customers who purchase Product from authorized Snap-on distribution channels for use in their profession".

krusty the clown

fraud may be too strong a word. the tool has a lifetime warrantee and the cost of warranty should be the same whether it has had 1 or several owners unless it has been abused. remember snap on was paid for the tool by the DEALER.most of the ebay and pawn shop purchasers are home buyers so those tools won't be subjected to the same use as a "proffesional". obviously your last statement is correct but it is up to the individual dealer..........btw i have never had a snap on dealer refuse warranty regardless of where i purchased the tool.

I like the Tech 1000 box but my top drawer feels sloppy when you open it. And it's not even close to being full. I actually talked to my Snap on Dealer today and talked to him about a Used Master Series box he has on the truck. I may end up trading this Matco box I got at home for it and bringing the Tech 1000 home and taking the Snap on to work. But I'm not sure yet. I just do oil changes and little stuff here and there at work. I'm actually looking into getting a second job part time at an indipendant shop for a while.

I'm gonna have to go ahead and disagree with you on this one, Jononon...

I'm pretty sure there is a legal ruling that prevents companies from limiting a Lifetime Warranty to only the Original Purchaser. Next-to-certain I have read that before, but, of course, now that I want to quote it, I can't find it.

But even if there wasn't such a ruling, the Warranty would absolutely have to specifically exclude that eventuality, which it does not.

Stay tuned...

I have a question - how can they restrict the warranty to the original purchaser if they don't require a receipt when you warranty an item? Does that mean you have to hope that the dealer remembers you purchasing it from them, or save all your receipts?

I don't understand how it can be considered fraud to get warranty service on an item that is eligible for such (i.e. not abused). Lets say that a "professional" buys a wrench from his snappy dealer and then later breaks the tool under normal use. Well, he could go back to this dealer and get the wrench warrantied, but instead throws it in a box and forgets about it. If he later falls on hard times and sells the box of tools to a pawn shop, why can't I buy those tools and then warranty the wrench that he should have warrantied himself in the first place? This is just my personal take on it.

Yea exactly, they sell the product with the knowledge that it could be warrantied at any time. That does increase the price over Chinesium tools, but not because people other than the original owners are getting them replaced. If you buy a misused tool and warranty it, thats fraud, but thats the same as the original misused tool being warrantied by the misuser... I don't see how it has anything to do with who was the original purchaser.

Funny, my Snap-On dealer not only doesn't ask where the tools came from, she KNOWS that I've bought them elsewhere and fixes them on warranty.

She has replaced broken tools I bought on ebay, fully knowing the exact situation, and didn't so much as flinch.

She traded in my old coarse tooth 3/8" snap-on ratchet that she KNEW I bought on ebay and ended up selling the other snap-on sockets that came with it, and I paid a grand total of $5 for the ratchet. Even knowing that, she gave me $40 credit towards a new F872 for my old ratchet.

Guess what? When I need a new tool I head right to the truck. Don't think for one second they haven't made their money off of me.

It still always comes back to if you are known and consistently throwing more money at them you will likely get premium warranty service; if not you can blow it out your keester if that is what they want to tell you. Paid wrench that owes money and will be buying more= no problem, ordinary joe that owes no money and they may never see again? HF or Sears guarantee will beat the SO warranty more times than not! At least in my experience.

Can i ask you question? why you hate the giant box? too wide? or bad design on the Casters? i am wondering???:headscrat:headscrat:headscrat

Deafautotech, I don't like that 1065 box; all it is is two 1023s spot welded together. It looks like it's going to break in half at any second.

Tom, just roll those two 7023s together; just leave the handles off. They'll look better than a 1065. If it were me though, I'd park them on two separate sides of the garage; I think they'd look more impressive that way.

Hey SVT WUT... how do you like those MAC screwdrivers???? Always wondered what they were like....

Which ones? The ones in my tool box or in my tool cart?

SVT WUT I'm in Indycarz.com. I see the sticker on your cart? Did you used to work at a dealership or shop??

Yes I used to work at Andy Mohr Ford and Tom Wood Toyota. I then moved up to the northwest Chicago burbs and worked at another Toyota dealership as a tech. Now I'm an assistant store manager at Sears Auto Center.

Great thing about that is I get to have all those tools and the nice toolbox at home. On top of that I can slow down my tool purchases and slowly build up my collection. That means more money for toys!! :bounce:

Here we go again. The tool box isnt going to break in half. Must you worry about every detail of every thing? Why dont you go through the entire Snap on catalog, and make a list of what you dont like about every tool they make, and when you are done, come back an let us know your findings. I'll see you back in a year!

How do you know that? If the box was hoisted up by a crane with a lift point at the center of the box, would it stay intact? I'm talking about the KRL1065.

How do you know that? If the box was hoisted up by a crane with a lift point at the center of the box, would it stay intact? I'm talking about the KRL1065.

You can create scenarios all day long on how the box could break. In the end, it doesnt matter, as Im sure hundreds have been sold, and I highly doubt any of them have broken in half.

My problem with these posts from you merkava, is they are generally full of speculation. From ratchets you dont own, to toolboxes you dont own, very little of your complaints are for tools that you seem to have owned or used.

Such information is really like throwing a wrench in the gears on a site like this.

Possible scenario, a guy comes here, asks for an opinion, and you give your highly critical opinion, and pick apart seemingly worthless aspects of a tool. Now I am opinionated as hell myself, however, the DIFFERENCE is I only give such extreme opinions on tools I own or have used enough to make an educated reccomendation. It would be a shame for someone to miss out on a nice tool, because he came here, and saw you picking it apart, with no fair basis to do so.

Do you have any first hand knowledge that the box in question has ever failed, know someone who has one that did? I guess this is just like the F936 ratchets that are an inferior design to the F830, right?

At the end of the day, its just a load of small talk.

I never said the F936 was inferior to a F830; I don't know where you got that. I just wanted to know how an F936 came apart; now I know.

I never said for sure that the 1065 would break in half; I said it looked like it could. If you knew a little about how the brain works, or if you've ever taken a psychology class, you'd understand.

Its makes it nice, as you can change drawers around very easily.

I want to take out a 4" deep center drwaer and put in 2 2" drawers, one for metric wrenches, and one for pliers. I currently have a 4" drawer with pliers, which is a major waste of space.

Too bad the drawers are so expensive!

Otherwise, I would have bought the larger craftsman professional tool chest. It's got the lift latch design, like the craftsman one. No different than buying a car and wanting to paint it another color later. Tastes change. Sometimes people want good, better. Like I said before, it would be hard to do since it's that color through and through. On top of that, it would be a major pain to remove all my tools, stickers and shiny aluminum parts just to begin the process of painting it. There was a guy in welding class that had one of those HF grinders. He payed $19.99 for it and it would last him 20 minutes before the armature burned up. He took it back it to HF and they gave him another one no questions asked.

He brought the replacement grinder into class the next day and it too lasted 20 minutes. He took the replacement grinder back to HF and they gave him another one no questions asked. He did that 4 or 5 times and finally gave up. He then comes in one day with one of those bright yellow grinders. I asked him if HF gave that to him. He said no, he decided to just get his $19.99 back and go to Sears and get him the yellow grinder. :D

Yeah, you'll have plenty of storage. The only thing I would suggest is to get some kind of flat surface that will support the chests entirely.

Under the bottom of the drawers where the lock cylinder is has 3 large channels . I assume to mount to a rolling cabinet. on the back there are 2 large openings to pick it up with a fork lift . I screwed the front channel to the bench

Just thought i'd show you guys what setup i use. I'm a diesel tech and my territory is all of Canada so I work on the road a lot. Because of this my employer provides my top box so i don't have to wreck my own. This is good but it means i'm limited to this type/size of top box. Working on the road lots means I also have to have all the tools i need in the top chest. I only work on metric stuff so that's all i have in the top box (plus a couple of "all-sixteenths").

My bottom box had my standard tools in it but i mainly just use it to store old/crap/extra/modified/rarely-used/duplicate tools.

I bought as much Knipex as i could through the program because you never really see Knipex stuff heavily discounted. In my humble opinion Knipex make Snap-On/Mac/Channelock/Craftsmars pliers look/feel like garbage. I hear Klein pliers are good too but i haven't had chance to really look at a set.

Man I bought a lot of Channellock stuff and I planned on keeping the BigAzz one (20.25") and when I got it, it made me feel a little less manly. Those things are HUGGGGEE (and if your from NY, think Fuccillo huge). So I took the 460s out of the package and have yet to part with the BigAzz pair yet...

sometimes it not a matter of capacity but a matter of leverage. I've had several projects where I've used mine and it was more for the extra torque you could apply more than the capacity of the jaws. The do make one hell of an oil filter wrench if you don't mind destroying the filter:)

Very true. This weekend I was using a different style of Channellock pliers and they gripped and worked great but I didn't have the leverage necessary, since they were too short.

I have one set of gripex (12" or so) and like them for 'round stuff'. I have to admit those big ole gripexs in garfunkels picture get my peepee all puffy. :shocking: I'd have to put them in a seperate drawer or they would make all my channel locks pout and jam up on me I think

wow that good. are your owner own Dodge dealership? if so, it is good for you because owner see you that you are good (or excellence) technician to work...

some technicians that i am working with, they will say yes or no to fix because some of them have their specialist while my specialist are Heavy line but i am willing to do all repairs if keep me busy instead send to home early ( i am still hourly since December 2005) the service managers who see and work with me never make offer me to change to flat rate or different pay issue... i am stay on hourly while i can... i did told former service manager that i will left the dealership if i had to switch to flat rate. they are never bother me about money or other thing. i am already had about 50 trainings but all of trainings are on websites and i am never being send to classes because no money and i told Chrysler company that i wont go to training if they dont prove the interpreter... i am required to have interpreter to learning and understand what teachers was talking about the trainings. ASE had to drop whole hassle problems about Interpreter when i told them about file the complaint against ASE with ADA. ASE already said they will provide the interepreter if they need it but required to have form from doctor that proof i am deaf. so well i am still fighting for my life to be equal with everyone in automotive industry. i am still best mechanic in my dealership even the master tech (part time) are too but he just had me to do all his works while he is off... Even he still got paid while i fixed or repaired it and if it still problems then i will said his problems but almost 99% of time he are correct! the reason why master tech want me to do his works because it will help me to learning and have more practices which help me more in real job when if master tech decided to left my work or was on vacation so i can do it...

i was told that they was happy that i can do all works and got it fixed in right way. even one former dealership technician was impressive of me that i fixed the diesel engine ( i am 21 years old) and i can fix or repair anything while there is many 21 years old techs do but not same with me... they tell me that i am good tech...

yeah i am understand as it is not that easy way to make money.. if want make lot of money then fix more and finish it more quicks... or be strave it... that reason i dont want go on flat rate soon because i had no certifed from Chrysler.. i only had ASE certifed as Engine repair... i did told other youngs to find other way to do the jobs... sometime it is stress for myself... but i am enjoying what i am doing so i am rather stay at dealership or work for Diesel truck....

Thanks, I'm real proud of it. I'm really looking forward to gett'n it cleaned up a little and organizing my tools in it.

I priced the whole set out new and it was almost $12,500. Besides having a little "crud" in the drawer and a few small scratches, it's like new as far as I'm concerned. I've even found a few tools in it under the liners. A Blackhawk 8mm combo ratcheting wrench, a 16mm Craftsman Pro combo wrench, a Matco mini flex light and a few punches. I called the previous owner and he said "keep em".
Awesome!

Question for you, I noticed on your air tools you have the "swivel" connection and a short air hose connected to them. In the manuals of my new air tools they always request that you put this on your tools, my question is: what is the benefit of these short air hoses (aside from the swivel, which I assume makes the tool easier to maneuver around)? One of the reasons I haven't done this is, I have a small box, all the air tools go in the bottom drawer and it would fill up the drawer quite a bit; with my 10+ airtools that live in there! Any responses appreciated!

All of my tools have been used at one time or another. Some get used more often than others of course. The main reason for duplicates is my inability to pass up a really good deal. I am selling one of my snap ring plier sets, also one of the cordless screwdrivers and one of my 1/4" drive 44 piece sets and one of my battery/starting system/alternator testers. I don't see a need for these tools and therefore I will sell them, but I got them for practically nothing and I think I will make a nice profit on the sales.

It is a friction drive ratchet. No ratcheting mechanism. It has a 3/8" drive mechanism along with a 1/2" drive mechanism. To reverse the direction you remove the drive and insert it from the other side. It is not good for high torque applications, but it will work in very confined areas. It is definitely a special purpose tool.

It is a RolAir 1.5HP 110V compressor. I use it to drive finish nailers and for other light jobs that don't require a lot of air flow. It is light and very well built.

Here are some pictures of my compressors

I have a 100' hose on a retractable reel connected to my big IR compressor. This hose is very tough and not very flexible. The whip hoses on my pneumatic tools are very pliable and flexible. It makes it easier to get the tool where I need to put it. The hoses do take up room in the tool drawer, but I highly recommend them. They make the job much easier IMO.

Been working on the road and haven't been on for a while. Looked back and realised that post sounded kind of AHole-ish. I was trying to say that in my opinion "Knipex > Channellock", even though it ended up sounding like "my box > your box". Just to clarify, i've had channellock stuff for a long time and still use some of them. My favourites are the cutters with the crimper (model 909) which are really handy for simple wiring jobs. I always thought channellocks were very high quality, but when i was introduced to Knipex stuff I was blown away by the functionality, quality and durability.

Anyway, you guys have some great looking boxes and I'm more than a little jealous of most of you....

Hey ricleh, I guess now anyone here wonders one thing :

Do you even have room for a car with that much tools in your garage ?

I have enough room to park my Tundra in the garage right now. When I start working on the last section of my kitchen cabinet replacement the truck will have to be moved to the driveway. Most of my large tools (table saw, shaper, jointer, etc. are on mobile bases and can be moved around fairly easily). I didn't post pictures of those tools since they are buried under other stuff right now. The largest tool, a SSC H4 panel saw is also on wheels but is very difficult to move because of the size - 10 feet long and nearly 8 feet high. I am working on a storage shed in my back yard so I can move some stuff out of the garage and have a larger work area.

Just one at a time. With the exception of three cordless drills and two 5" grinders there are mostly just one of each tool. I had to get a new cordless drill because it was cheaper than buying batteries for my other one and it came with two batteries so now I can use both of the same voltage.

When I was building kitchen cabinets I would have three drills all with different bits, just to speed up production.

4th Drawer Air Tools (Not Much)

The rest isnt even worth showing only a few pliers and a multimeter, the tools are 96% craftsman 1% snap-on and 2% S&K and 1 lonely Proto 1/2 Inch Ratchet. I think that I only use about half of the drawers but that will change soon enough :)

Hey Guys I am new,

Heres "my toolbox" the dealership I work at decided they wanted everything to look uniform so when built the dealership in 06 they filled the shop with the same box for all the techs. I just started working in the shop mid march and I am attending a local community college and doing the GM ASEP Program, so still being in HighSchool my box is pretty empty :( but I get a discount when school starts :)

Ducroix... hang in there, you're off to a good start. About the only thing I'd recommend in the here-and-now is that you get yourself some more dependable ratchets and some GearWrenches.

Kartracer was in your situation not too long ago... he can probably give some input here....

Is it your box, or the dealer's?

A couple of hammers/punches would be of benefit.

I am curious about dealership's toolbox as how wide, depth, and height???

My dealership (both chrysler/ Jeep and Mercury/ Lincoln) have no money to set "built toolbox in" as they just want keep business running so my dealership just let all techs bring their toolboxes as no matter what size as biggest box or small box but my dealership want all techs to fix what their specialists are....

I am second technician who own bigger boxes in my work as first tech own matco tool 4 bays Chest and bottom and side locker... the first tech are good tech but working for over 27 years in shop.... he told me that he will retired if someone buy his boxes with tools...

I am not sure on the measurements, the box is made by Borroughs Corporation they set up the toolboxes/workbenches/ and the shelving in the parts dept. I tried there website but they dont list specs on the boxes one day I will measure them.

It is the dealers, I actually dont have a box as of yet because I dont really need one right now.
