I had outgrown my old toolbox and wanted something a little "different" for my garage remodelling project. I'm a Ford guy so this one fit the bill for me. Show us what you've got.

Believe it or not, NAPA. It's been advertised in their last two quarterly wholesale fliers. I've also seen the same box, but with different graphics, on the MAC website. It's really good quality and also comes with a side cabinet that is currently mounted on my other rollaway due to space constraints.

Satatic,

Nothing wrong with what you've got.

I have some Stack-On boxes as well. I have to say that I am very happy with the quality. Everything that I've seen in stores since seems flimsy in comparison. For the record, I'm talking Costco, Canadian Tire, and Sears.

The Stack-On units I have came with nice roller bearings on the drawers and overall have a nice heavy sold feel to them.

They sell very similar stuff at Costco up here in Seattle for not a huge amount of money. I think the equivalent to that model costs about $1200 there.

edit: I hadn't bothered to look at the link. Gee, $1275. I guess Costco's less, but no Harley logo.

I guess Costco's less, but no Harley logo.

They just give you a big harley sticker to put on the toolbox. I think they do that just so people think it is a harley toolbox when it isn't. They also give you a snap-on screwdriver with the toolbox. Smart way of cross advertising to people searching for "snap-on" though.

They aren't cheap but they very nice units. The two cabinets you see in the picture ran me about $2000 including shipping. I chose not to buy the rest pf the pieces from baldhead for a couple of reasons. First being cost , second being I wanted the tall cabinets to be open at the floor so I can roll items right in , such as floor jack and buckets. So I'm building these as bulit in closets. I picked up a pair of 36" unfinished upper cabinets from Lowes and painted them with Hammerite paint which turned out very nice. All said I'll have about $2600 total into the system which will include a butcher block top.

Well, here's my hybrid... after a couple of years of chasing tools between the upper 3-drawer roller, a 4-drawer portable chest, and 3 smaller hand-held boxes, i finally bought the 8-drawer roller yesterday.

Rather than bin my 3-drawer (i'm SEVERELY low on space), or spend $$$ on a new chest, i persuaded the 3-drawer to fit on top of the 8-drawer with a little help from a BFH. I'm not all that happy with it in retrospect- i should have just bought the huge combination set that Sears had on sale at Christmastime (i think a six-drawer roller, 3-drawer midsection, and six-drawer chest all for $300), or else replaced my workbench with something with a few sets of drawers. With this setup, the most convenient section is the huge opening in the middle, and all the drawers are either too high or too low. Bah. i also lost valuable putting-junk-on-in-mid-project space, since anything i put on top is pretty much out of sight.

Well, you know what they say... live and learn, then spend some money on tools, then learn some more, and spend some more money on tools, then learn some more...

Here's my lonely top box...it's 42" wide...which believe it or not I find too small.

I couldn't haul it and the bottom home at the same time so I waited a week to pickup the roller bottom...but the price increased from $400 to $589...The management at HD wasn't budging on the price...so I bought the $99 roll around tool bench in the second picture to place it on...that combination turned out to be a little top heavy so I placed it on my work bench...it works, but I'm still bummed about the bottom...I think I'm going to mount my grinder and drill press to the roll around bench so I can push it outside when I'm working on those to keep the slag out of the garage...

Luckydevil.....I have that exact "Harley" stainless box. But I got mine at Costco afew years ago. They still have them, but they are WAY cheaper in quality. It has super smooth ball bearing drawers, very tight tolerances (drawers dont have any side to side slack in them at all) with a little stop built in right before they close, so they dont slide open if you are moving it around. It came with all the liners for the drawers, etc. They are made by Hammerhead...a line from the company SHARK stainless...which is the boxes you see on "Overhaulin"..just theirs are fully polished. When I got mine, the top and bottom together cost $600.00...I think a GREAT deal. Even better when my girlfriend took me there on my birthday to buy it for me as my gift!! I guess going there every week and hugging it gave her the idea!!

These boxes weight over 400 pounds together (empty). The welds, inside and out are very good...shouldnt ever need another box...this baby aint gonna rust!! Only problem is I like to keep it clean..people think I am crazy when they come over and see me with my ZEP stainless cleaner and a rag polishing my toolbox!!!

These are my toolboxes. The small 3 drawer box I won in an NHRA and Sears Tools of the Trade Contest a couple of years ago. It came loaded with Craftsman tools. 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, wrenches, allens, SAE and metric. It was also signed by Dale Creasy, a funny car driver back then, who was sponsored by Craftsman. The big one is a 5 drawer Craftsman, a 3 drawer add on Craftsman and the top is a Homak that I got from Costco a few years ago. Now it's getting small. I'm looking at a 41 inch rollaway Craftsman from their tool catalog. My 40 year collection keeps growing so I need a bigger box. I also do not have a garage ( and boy am I jealous of those who do) so my box is in my cellar. I enjoy checking out all the photos here and in the other forums. To all, keep the pictures coming.

Sam's Club (AKA WallyMartWorld) has a similar, 42" wide, stainless steel set up with the top & bottom boxes for $649.00. I outgrew my 20+ year old Craftsman set up & looked around over the last few months for a bigger one. I stumbled upon the box in Sam's & thought it was definitely marked wrong & checked at the desk. I went home & searched the internet to see who makes it, & posted a question on another site asking about it & was told "Hammerhead"

3 or 4 others said they, or a friend had one, & were very happy with it & impressed at what they got for the price. I went back for a second look & decided to get one too. Also came with the drawer liners which saved a trip to Sears. The one thing I wish this one had was the 2 vertical rows of drawers, one wide & one narrow. Mine has drawers that are as wide as the cabinet, but will still work. It has the handles on both ends of both cabinets, but is definitely HEAVY. I guess the handles are for hanging shop towels on.

The one thing that both surprised & disappointed me, is that it's made in Taiwan. 99% of tool related things from Asia are usually junk, but this is very good quality & should last. No wobble in a loaded drawer & the workmanship & finish is clean.

I got fed up with them a long time ago. A few times really. Las time was when I wanted to buy a toolbox, picked one out on the floor, not in stock and under no conditions were they going to sell the floor model. 3 different Sears were the same way. I finally found the one I wanted but I swore that was the last time in dealing with them. I get an attitude as soon as a Sears salesman approaches me. BUT I do have to go back to get all three of my ratchets replaces AGAIN for the third time. No wonder the name is starting to become CRAPSMEN!!!

Two ways to go:

1. You have to have your picture hosted somewhere on the internet. I use www.cardomain.com but there are lots of other picture hosting sites out there. Once your picture is hosted, right click on the picture, go to "properties" and copy the URL. Then come here and type "". Paste in the URL and then "". Your picture will then magically appear in your post.

2. You can use the "manage attachments" button in the additional options section of the posting area. Very simple click the button and then browse your computer for the picture you want to post. Download the pic and you're ready to go. The one issue with this is that the picture has to be a particular size or below. I'm sure someone can fill us both in on the maximum size is. If you have no photo editing software there are several shareware programs out there for free.

Some of you may be wondering why I have only Craftsman ratchets and such a big expensive box. A few reasons. One, I've only been working on cars for a living for about a month and a half. Two I almost never use a regular hand ratchet so new ratchets aren't very high on my priority list. But as of now I'm slowling phasing out my Crafstman collection for Mac, Snap-On, SK, Matco.

The box itself I got a decent deal on as far as Snap-On boxes go. It was 5 months old when I bought it two weeks ago. The dealer told me it's a one of a kind becuase of the combination it's in. Top chest, bottom chest and two side lockers with the left locker door flipped so it swings out the other way. Plus the drawer fronts are red anodized aluminum. Total original cost was around $8500. I got it for a little under $5000.

I have the big red one from Costco, the only thing I dont like about it is the finish is red wrinkle finish and it is a pain to clean. About 3 months after I bought this one they came out with the stainless one that Sams has.

I also use the bottom of old cubicle desks for my bottom cabinets in my work bench, one is for body tools and sand paper rolls, one is for my drill bits and misc stuff

For the wrinkle finish, get one of those "mr clean magic erasers" Trust me, they work VERY well.

Thanks, Jim.......they actually aren't a set. The bottom roll-away is a matco and the top is a snap on. I bought them on the cheap......the bottom on ebay for sixteen hundred and the top box didn't sell on ebay for a thousand..... (it was still new)...... I got it for eight hundred so was plenty happy with the combo for 2400.00........
What was amazing was that I had tools floating around in a few different craftsman roll arounds and when I rounded it all up and consolidated into this blue combination I filled it......and my two craftsman boxes are still full so you can imagine how unorganized it had gotten. Anyways.......thanks

ya know, Wolverine, your comment made me really think. To be honest, Id bet alot that you know a hell of alot more than I do. I havent been around all that long, and there are so many things that you simply learn with age (not that im calling you old or anything). Id venture to guess that you have been through experiences, both good and bad, which I have yet to, and have helped to make you who you are today.

Really, I think it is I who loses this one.

Here you go. You all should get a good laugh out of these.

Whe I was working in the automotive business, I had 2 Snap-On KR655 roll cabs. When I left the business about 8 years ago, I was storing them in my leaky sheds, and they were getting thrashed. I sold them to save them, so to speak...;)

Here are my current boxes. Each one has it's own story.
The top-middle-bottom on the left is and old Craftsman (I think). It is beat up but it does hold tools. I bought it at a storage sale for $25.

The center box originally belonged to (and was built by) my wife's great-grandfather. It housed the tools used in his auto and tractor repair business. Her grandfather had it, and when he passed away, all the relatives were circling like buzzards to snap up whatever they could sell. He had a lot of nice woodworking equipment, which is what they were after. Nobody wanted "that ugly box and all those junk tools". I ended up with it, and it was full of Blue Point, Plomb, Bonney, plus lots of pullers and other tools he had made himself. Junk, yeah right.

The top box on the right was given to me by a co-worker after it fell out of the back of his truck. He straightened it out and welded some angle around it to shore it up. He bought a new box and gave me this one. It works.

The bottom box on the right is actually a 19" rackmount computer cabinet. It came from a local newspaper office, as they were upgrading their system after a USAF U-2 crashed into the building in about 1992. I turned it sideways and mounted some drawers in it for power tools.

I just moved these boxes to their present location last weekend after selling my ShopSmith to make space. They were all in different places, making it difficult to work out of them. It is not very secure (lean-to built on the side of a shed), hence the locks.

When I eventually get a permanent structure, I will be lookint at Lista or Vidmar for tool storage...used, of course!...;)

First time using Phobucket, hope it works (my FTP site is down).

The ones on the left, I think they are REMLine. Never seen any Craftsman's that were that style.

That is possible, as the nameplates are long gone. They are built exactly like the Craftsman boxes as far as the structure goes, except the bottom box has double-wall sides. REMline, Cornwell, Waterloo? I don't know how long Craftsman boxes have had full-width drawer pulls and recessed side handles, but it seems like forever. This one has bail-type side handles, but the top lid is identical to the box on the right.

They have been repainted several times. I painted the top and bottom red, but jury is still out on the middle 3-drawer unit. It may be too far gone to save, so I will probably borrow a drawer out of it to replace the missing one in the bottom.

Stuff like this follows me home all the time...it is truly a sickness...;)

I believe they are first generation MAC Tool boxes before they changed the handle from the round type to square box type. I've worked many years ago with a since retired heavy duty mechanic who own such a box and that's what inspired me to purchased a MAC Tool box over a Snap On version. They don't make tool boxes like that anymore.

Anyone know where I can pick up a good matching 3 drawer intermediate tool chest to fit between my MAC Tool chest and roller cabinets here locally in greater Vancouver B.C. area? Preferred the matching red MAC Tool type as per picture below. It's either purchase the intermediate chest to buy some time to handle the overflow tools or just bit the bullet and purchase a larger Snap On or MAC Tool chest/roller cabinet.

I really just started building up my tool boxes a couple of years ago. Before that I had just the carry along tool boxes.

The tall one is a 15 drawer Craftsman unit with the top compartment and the three small storage compartments on the bottom unit. I wish I had paid the extra for a ball bearing unit, but the standard draw sliders are working just fine, even with the extra weight of things like air tools and my tool collections.

I do remember the "Davis" part. It is difficult to hold the rubber end in the hole while cranking, as the compression tends to pop it out.

That tool is what taught me the "crank it 5 times" rule...;)

There was also a matching vacuum gauge with a color coded scale..."deceleration", "idle", "economy", "power", etc.

Yeah, with getting the exact size I wanted, with exactly the drawer configuration and stainless drawer fronts with every thing else powder coated, it was not the cheapest toolbox but I can guarantee it will be the last toolbox I buy in my life, the thing is AWESOME and beyond words, every thing super heavy-duty, nice solid steel everywhere. Base alone is 500lbs and I bet the 1/4" top weighs just as much.

Most of the lock cylinders are pretty standard. My local Ace Hardware carries a few different types, and any locksmith shop should have them as well.

The locking tang that attaches to the back of the cylinder can usually be removed an attached to a new cylinder, although some require more effort as they are riveted on.

In the attached photo. you will find the location to date that box. Lower right corner, pressed into it. Works on any Craftsman box. By the way, you can also get three locks keyed alike from Sears still. However you still might be able to find them cheaper at ace or such like previously posted.

What else can you tell me about those? What asian country did they come from, and how do they work out. Well to be honest, I wouldn’t buy them again. It was one of those "damn these are cheap" buys and a little bit on the fact that one of the guys at the shop praises their impact swivel sockets. They are stamped "Dropped Forged China" right on them; in fact it’s almost embarrassing to have that side of the wrench up! Besides all that, they have held up pretty good for being pounded on with impacts and what not. Only trouble so far is with my 3/8 when I was using it on a flare-nut on a brake line inside of a trailer tongue and surprisingly left a “dent”.

As of now I am just waiting for the “right” deal on some crapsman pros, but until then these will work.

My SAE gearwrenches are Husky Pro’s, kind of wish I got a full set instead of that 7 piece deal as I use mostly standard stuff on boats. The metric ones are Gearwrench brand and have the “cap-stop” as discussed in a thread about MAC gearwrenches.

How about the S•Ks?

I like those looong spline-drives!

I believe those are locking flex heads too. Im really starting to get kind of annoyed with these freakin gear wrenches. I know gearwrench has non loclking flex heads, but they arnt reversible. Not number one on my list of things to buy, but Im keeping my eye out for a decent deal.

Jim... you keep saying that about Gearwrenches...

Just flip the stupid thing over. Bam! It turns the other way...

I hate the cap-stop feature on some of the gearwrenches. It'd be nice not having to keep the box from slipping down off the nut, yes. But they keep you from accessing certain fasteners. I can't recall a specific instance off the top of my head, but several times I've crossed paths with a fastener that could NOT be turned because of the cap-stop thingy.

S•K calls them G-Pro. They are XXL ratcheting box ends, and appear to be zero offset.

A bit pricey, but...?

Whoops... one more pic!

This last one is actually a cover I made for my nice box, keeps dust off of it, made it myself out of heavy duck cloth. Has a velcro wrap-around side and pulls right off. Also, I'm planning on painting the red boxes satin black to try and match them to the ball-bearing box, you can see some of the small samlpes on the top of it.

Another neat thing... I don't know about you guys but I love the look of stickers on a box, BUT I really wanted to be able to remove them, so I collected all those stickers, them bought thing magmetic sheets at the craft store and placed and cut out the stickers. Took a LONG LONG time, and set me back some money (too much now that I think about it) but it's really neat because I can move the stickers wherever I want!

Also, I picked up that filing cabinet for $10 at a used office funiture store, great for holding personal protective equip, and other large items, like the welding hats and whatnot. I'ts gonna be satin black too, and I'm welding up a rack that will mount on top of it to hold welding clamps, C-clamps, and other misc. storage. I put some casters on it too. Worked out pretty nice for so cheap!

Not to keep off topic (...kinda like a bump... hehe) but what about something like this kart? Pretty good deal, not sure what metric wrenches you’re looking for though. I never saw this set before, seem cheap... They're not reversible, but they all are built the same so you just have to pay attention to which direction the open-end is offset to.

TNT, Yeah, I know, but There have been times where I have backed myself "into a corner" so to speak with my non reversible gear wrenches.

If the bluepoint's are on sale, Im definetly going to ask about those. My Snap on guy ditched the snap on truck for a u-haul!! haha Long story, but he's a day late with all his stop's.

Strizzy, Im going to look at those. Everybody seems to be very happy with thier gearwrench stuff. I really only NEED metric, but I may also need the SAE's depending on which car I decide to go with. If its a 74-76 nova SAE only, 89-92 stang maybe both. 00-04 s10, metric. Hmmm

That seems really cheap for that set though, are those actual gearwrench brand gearwrenches? The logo doesnt look right

Here's my set.. I used to just use whatever I could find to store tools, (carry boxes) and the old vintage Red box on top.
Last week I was living large I got the Harbor Freight 41" roller cab base. It was on sale at $399, then I was able to use a 15% off coupon bringing it to $340.
http://eskimo.org/blog/Jan07b144.jpg
Compared to the Waterloos/ Craftsman/ Huky boxes I was looking at in my proce range, the HF unit BLOWS THEM AWAY.
Yeas, it feels VERY nice. One thing I noticed is that you have to close the drawers square. An off center attempt will bind.
The top unit was my Grandfather's. It's been my primary storage unit since I got it from him in 94. I have no idea how old it is, but he was a machinist with Boeing all his life. This has Boeing union stickers all over it. For it being roughly 50 years old, HEAVILY used, and not having ball bearing slides, it STILL feels better than even this Harbor Freight unit. I have no idea what brand it is, and why it operates so smoothly.
(oh, it's also heavy as all getout.)

So, what the hell could the old red box be? anyone recognize the handles? It has ZERO markings that I could ever find.

By the way, i only have a one car garage at this apartment until my wife and i PCS to a new base... i think i have done fairly well at cramming all of my "man toys" as my wife calls them into this small garage.

Here's mine. The Craftsman boxes are full so I bought the Macs used and will restore them when the weather is cooler (I'll probably paint them Ford blue). I just picked up the little Snap-on carry box and that will get restored pretty soon and will be painted red. My son has a Black three section Craftsman that is a little bigger than my Craftsmans that my dad bought him. We are working on filling them up. He's only 16 and they are about 1/3 full. The carry Craftsman next to my big boxes will be a bench box when I build my other workbench in the third garage.

Occasionally I have to justify the cost of tools to the wife.If it becomes much of an issue, I just have her get an estimate on any repair work needed on her car. That usually settles things good for quite awhile. (until it's my veh. that needs the work).

Whoa - That middle box is insanely similar to mine. My bottom is a Mac a touch newer than yours (handles are different, but there are holes drilled in the right places for handles like yours), and my top is a 10 drawer Cornwell that looks identical to your Mac top, and was probably made by the same company back in the day. you have same box that my tech friend have it at dealership. oh man! he only use few tools in one drawer as top drawer was sockets set, impact wrenches, hammers, else but it seem to me that he have very small amount of tools in bigger toolbox. he consider to downsize toolbox but big problem is he bought new..... snap on guy will not give him a money back if he trade in for small box as snap on guy will give credit so he can buy more tools....

it is not my business to decide but bad idea to buy bigger toolbox and never buy any tools as it consider to be waste money on box...

Hello all,
The box is in my home garage. My problem is / was that I had several different tool boxes. One box for my mechanic stuff, one box for race car stuff, one box for my RC airplane tools, one box for home tools plus Tools laying around all over the shop on shelves.
I condensed all my doubles and put those away, now I can actually find stuff when I need it. For instance I have 6 water pump pliers and could never find one when I needed it. I kept them all in the box now but it was ridiculous how much stuff I had and how unusable it was until I got this box. The stuff like doubles of sockets I put away in the craw space for now. As I break stuff I shop up there first.
Don’t worry about not being able to fill it. I put in all that stuff above and still have empty draws!! I’ve been buying stuff off the Snap on website stuff I wanted for a while and now will be hooking up with the truck soon. See separate post.

He has a KRL1004 quadruple bank with a side locker and the 1002 size top chest (he upgraded from a KRL1002 bottom chest to the 1004. His tool collection is much more impressive than mine. We both use our tools for our hobbies. We both do vintage Mustang restoration work and he does other small jobs here and there. The tool collections are overkill, we know it. But, we like quality stuff and can make enough extra $$ doing our hobbies to afford the tools, so it all works ok.

I have a fair amount of tools, and I use every one of them, some only rarely. Working on vintage mustangs, seems there is no way you could use all of those different sockets. Im not trying to be rude, I love your collection, and if I had the money, id maybe buy as much too, but I dont see myself buying tools that i dont need. My future tool purchases are mainly to make things I do now easier, like more air tools, which are just for convenience.

But come on, 7 f936 ratchets? (did I count right?). Sounds obbsessive compulsive to me. :shocking:

Well you do have a nice collection of tools there! I think that your not any where out of room yet. Your only drawer that is _full_ is the large socket drawer. The first thing you need to do is loose the crummy plastic trays that the tools come in. They waste TONS of room, when I got rid of mine I gained a lot of wasted space back. If you do you will have a lot more room. Your screwdrivers will all fit in one drawer that way. Rack up the rest of your wrenches etc... I would say your Box is about 75-80% full at most.

You just identified the primary reason so many guys are always prowling around looking for bigger and bigger boxes. I cannot begin to tell you how many hobbyist and paid wrench benders boxes I have seen where so much wasted space justifies a larger box!

I will grant you that I may have some overcrowding of drawers going on; However, I can always find what I need and fish it out of the drawer in a few seconds. Yes, most drawers do not look pretty when opened up, and I even have to fiddle with a few to get them to close when I am done, but one thing is for sure. I have maximized the use of every last square inch which is what it is all about to me. I hate wasted space! :pimpflash

http://i20.tinypic.com/zuqiap.jpg New one.

We went into Sears this afternoon, and I thought I would just be browsing. This happened to be on sale for cheaper than it's painted counterparts ($400). So my girlfriend insisted that I should just get it. When we got to the counter, it rang up as $340  .

I've been wanting the Costco tool chest, but I've recently realized I have too many expensive hobbies that I want to take part in now. So dropping $800 on a single hobby wasn't really gonna do it for me. This one will work great for me and I can add a top and side chest later on....soon actually...I already ran out of room.

Alright, I finally got some recent pictures of my toolbox to post in here. It's not the best, but I am pretty proud of what I have as I am only fifteen years old and I worked hard to purchase every single thing you see here myself. I use my tools literally every single day professionally on everything from bicycles to race cars. I buy quality tools, because you only have to buy them once. The idea is if I buy things one at a time over a few years when I am young, the sticker shock isn't so bad, and by the time I am a tech I will have everything I need, and won't be paying whatever the current prices are for the new imported chinese garbage...Made In USA stuff will be hard to come by.

Anyway, I had to steal some batteries out of a TV remote in the first place for this, and they didn't last very long, so I didn't get the whole toolbox (especially the bottom drawer of my top box - the best part!)...but it's a start, I will get some batteries and edit this post with more pictures later.

When I started work as a mechanic at Firestone back in the 1980's I started with a basic set of Craftsman tools. Over the years I traded a lot in with the Snap On guy for Snap On stuff and bought a lot of stuff. Like you said you only have to buy quality stuff once. Now I have a mix of Snap On, Mac, Matco, Craftsman, SK, and several others. I just swapped out a pile of 25 year old Snap On screwdrivers for a brand new Snap On set no problems.

that interesting to me that you use tool trays in toolboxes instead use magnet rails or rails (not hansen rails) that where you can have more storages.... :D

Brendan,
You have a nice set of tools for such a young guy. I had only my dads hand me downs at that age and the few I could afford from the local surplus store and they were in a small bent up metal toolbox. I could only dream of having a set of tools like that.
One comment to make is that you may want to find out where Mastercraft automotive hand tools and most of their larger tool boxes are manufactured before putting down "imported Chinese Garabge" as you put it (hint: its not the USA). You might be surprised.
I also own some Mastercraft Maximum tools , but were called Mastercraft Professional when I bought them 15 years ago and have performed great. I have broke a few and they were replaced without any problems.

OctaneMotorsports
09-22-2007, 11:47 AM
I realize Mastercraft is China/Taiwan. My top and intermediate boxes are Chinese, and the bottom box is Made In USA (Waterloo). I got that three tray set to get me started (Taiwan, it was $150 CDN on sale from $300) and was planning on phasing it out with Snap-On as I saved up money (you can see I have already done the same with my screwdrivers, pliers, etc.). That said, the Mastercraft Maximum stuff has never given me a single problem with anything. I have over 160 of their Mastercraft Maximum fully polished combination wrenches that I love, and they go on sale dirt cheap all the time. I am phasing out the ratchets for Snap-On (I already have a couple, even though the MM are very good for the money) and some of the sockets I use a lot...otherwise it's awesome.

Nothing wrong with tools from Canadian Tire, I have bought alot of stuff from them in the 80's before making the big move out here.

Guess what? I still have them and still use them

Got screw drivers, torx screw drivers, tap and die set, sockets, ratchets and the Gray brand of tools they sell there as well

Well I can finally bump this thread for a reason. Got a new toy and all and all for about $500 (sidebox and cabinet) I feel its a really good deal. Not very good pics, but some quickys as I was pretty busy. Box is a Husky Pro 41" and its built by Stanley in Canada (which probably explains why that Proto box that was posted looked so much like it  ).

Thanks hholmberg.

I really like it all considering, I wanted something that would hold up well and didn't empty the bank. Its built fairly well, the slides hang onto the drawers and box (no rivets) so that they can be mounted different heights and change the layout.

Biggest down side is the lack of double slides on the socket drawer and to lock the drawers in place you have to make sure they're firmly in, although when full of tools the bigger ones do it for them selves. Still very happy with it, way better then the new crap HD is trying to sell with those slides that ripe drawers out of your hand and probably throw all your tools in the back of the drawer.

Pretty surprised at how full the box is already, but now I have the room to get more tools! (although theres only a couple more things I "really" need, but its no fun stopping there...)

Figured I'd post. My humble contribution. I wish it was filled with fancy tools but I'm doing ok with what I have for now.

Here's my toolbox, I love finally having it but already I wish I'd gotten:
1. a ball bearing intermediate box.
2. a full depth intermediate and top box.
3. a 6 smaller drawer bottom chest as I will use more thin drawers than deep ones.

Can't complain though, the price was nice (scratch and dent on ebay, local pick up).

I also included my other "tool box". It's filled with woodworking tools and power tools. I hope to pick up two more steel filing cabinets like it this week from CL. I'll use them as part of the workbench storage.

I usually just push down on the socket on the rail next to the one I need and it keeps the rail held down. I wouldn't want to drill any holes in my box.

More -- it's pretty heavy, yet still quite manageable

BTW, not that I'm nuts about wrenches, but I work on old British cars and they use Whitworth -- so an extra drawer had to hold the old Brit standards.
