Has anybody thought about a member rating system? It would have to be independant of post count (because Im a post whore lol). I noticed that a few other boards have 1-5 start system of rating thier members based on info given out. Kind of like rating a thread.
Just a thought

Not trying to rain on your parade, but for what reason?
I like coming here, hanging out, and talking about shops. I'm not sure I'd want to turn discussions into a popularity contest...

So with 2700 posts, if we base it on the S/N ratio, you may not be happy with your rating.:)

You can rate threads, but I have no idea if that affects your profile in any way. Maybe the boss can clear things up...
I've seen the same thing on other boards, too. The one thing it would do would be to bring out "problem solvers". One guy has a problem, another guy solves it (You know, like you and Dink used to do. :) ) - he gets 2 points, but another guy comes close to the total solution, so he gets 1 point, etc..
I'm not sure that this type of thing has a place here.

W-Cummins... take the post you made in the compressor thread. That is some excellent information. I sure as hell couldnt have done that. I think the member rating system would help newer people who dont know much about the members know whos suggestions and information are definetly legitimate.
Just throwing it out there

Don't get me wrong, Kartracer. As I said, I'm not trying to put down your suggestion. Just that I'm not sure that it would accomplish what you're suggesting. Different people would give points for different reasons.
Along that idea, though, how about this: Ryan posts up some of the "noted" threads on the front page. How about a "sticky" post at the top of each division that mods can link to top threads in that division - sort of a FAQ for newer guys?

Hmm thats a good idea.
there are a few good compressor threads we have had, some airline threads, there was a BIG cordless drill thread... stuff like that would be good to be able to get to easily instead of having to dig up whenever we need to make a purchase and do a bit of research

Obviously, you can search for stuff. But sometimes it is a matter of knowing what to search for. Like I really dig OldCarGuy's bridge crane, but currently it is the seventh post if I search just on "bridge crane" and you have to know it is in his garage thread...
Although there is then the risk of a "popularity contest" of which garage threads get picked for the "sticky" and so forth... :)

Well let me just point out that Luke and I are the only two who have a sticky
But seriously... Im taking a break for lunch now so I might just start up a list from stuff in the tool section and Ill post it up for review and editing.

I’m with PAToyota and BMWPower.
In the virtual garage we should all be able to throw around thoughts and ideas without the risk of being ranked badly on a brain failure day. My thought is, ranking was a good discussion to have, but a bad idea. Ironically Kartracer55 could have been ranked badly for this discussion even though it was thought provoking.
