Duct to reclaim warm air from Attic...?

Is it a good idea to put in a duct and blower in the attic to pull down the warm air from up there to help heat the garage?

My garage is insulated and heated, but I don't plan on running the heater when I'm not there.

Perhaps a blower and a duct to pick up the warm air near the peak of the attic, and a separate duct to act as a cold air return from the floor of the garage up to the attic.

I'm thinking that in the winter, this might be some "free heat".

What do you guys think...?

Assuming your ceiling is well insulated there shouldn't be much warm air to reclaim. Unless of course you're talking about a vaulted ceiling. Homes typically have the ceiling insulated and not the roof.

yep as has been stated the attic need's to be as close as possible to the outside temp in order to have a good shingle life. Is you're garrage attached to you're house? and is the furnice room or storage room on the other side of the garrage wall? If it is all you need to do is make a hole in the wall close to the furnice or a heat duct if it is a storage room and t off a new duct to run into the garrage.

my furnice room is right along the back wall of the garage and the bath room is above the furnice room seing how the washroom doesnt need it's own heat duct I simply rerouted the heat from the wash room into the garage. it usually keep's the garage 10 deg's above frezzing when it is -10 outside and I use my kerosene heater to bring the temp up even more it work's alright It cost me 10$ in kerosene and 5$ worth of a drill bit and some of the fancy heat duct tape to heat my garage last winter
