Well after years of using drills like Skil, Black and Decker I dedcided it was time to get myself a real drill that wouldn't break down after a year or 2 of servive. I finally went with the Metabo which is fully made in Germany, its got a gear reduction on it, 705 watts, keyless metal chuck, long cod, variable speed and reverse. I used it the other day and loved it. Looks like this will be the last drill I ever buy

The Metabos are good tools. The one in the link looks similar to the ones we had in the high school woodshop and metal shop. They got abused and looked it but they kept on working. The metal shop also had 4 1/2" Metabo angle grinders and I believe a 7" one.
I personally liked the Metabo drills just as much as my Milwaukee Magnum Hole Shooter drills I have.:)

Metabo, Milwaukee, and Makita all make good drills. Buy something that starts with "M" and you won't go wrong.
If you want it to last forever, a Bosch is also a good bet. :)
