Here are some pictures from this morning. This guy has to be the most "extreme" when it comes to reworking cars for ultimate weight reduction. Folks from Penske, Porsche Motorsport and other big race shops have been here. Its actually not bad laying on the floor working on these cars.

The green Porsche was reduce 600kg in weight through the use of titanium, carbon fiber and other lightweight components. Cost was over $1m for this work but several of the components are now being used by Porsche Motorsports. He is also developing some components for a new Bugatti supercar (sorry, no photos). SD

I could live with a shop like that, but I don't know about the carpet. Maybe if all my cars were new ones that didn't leak, drip or drop anything, I might think differently. Would be nicer than laying on cold concrete though.

I'm at a loss for words. That is a VERY nice shop. WOW.
What is the ducting near the floor for?
Bugatti Supercar.... as in Veyron?

The ducting at the rear of the shop is for the fume extraction.

The hardware in the boxes is all titanium ($3-10 per fastener). I'm not sure of the model name but its the one with the 250mph top speed. SD

Steve the fume extraction system? is that home made or is that commercially avail somewhere? I'd love something like that but have been unable to figure out where to find piping like that to connect the tailpipe hoses to. I toyed with the idea of 3" PVC for a while but couldn't convince myself it wouldn't melt or worse. My V-8 Runs alot hotter than the Hi revving monsters he shows there though. Thx for posting these pics!

I use Air Handling Systems (see http://www.airhand.com/ ) out of CT for the piping and connectors. I'm a direct distributor with Plymovent for the fans and hose. The pipe will get hot....the key is air volume and velocity for cooling.

I'm speechless, Steve.............
Are those boxed carbon fiber trailing arms on the 911 Cabriolet?
You do get to meet some kewl folks in your chosen profession
Thanks (again) for sharing,

Sounds like someone I'd get along nicely with. If I only had the money. For now, the diet my car is on is limited to removal of unecessary items such as sound deadening and carpet... ;)
Thanks for the pix, if you get more, post 'em up. Its a nice garage, and I'd love to see more of that green Porsche, too.

While I'm sure the carpet is nice and comfy, the first thing I'd do is dump an oil pan on it or something.

Can I ask you a quick question on the mid Rise lift you have in the photo. I have a small one car garage, with low ceiling height. I was thinking about one of these lifts to change tires, do brakes etc. I have about two feet that would be able to raise the car. Would a lift like this suit my needs ???? Thanks Chris
Oh My God!!! I Know There Has Been Banter Back And Forth About A Working Garage And A Show Garage But Man They Got Both Going On Here. I Love Tool Cabs. Wow.

Steve (UltGar) asked that the photo's not be posted on other sites. He's very protective of his stuff. While I can't afford the stuff he does I do enjoy looking at the pics he shares with us and get ideas and most of all something new to dream about. I hope we'll all obey his wishes so he'll continue to share with us his fine work.:)

The third pic reminds me of my garage. Well, actually just the wooden 4x4 blocks on the floor. (hee hee) Nothing else in my gararge even closely resembles anything in those pics. Wow!!
Dan (but I feel a little better knowing that he also uses wooden 4x4's)

We have linoleum floors in our house so we use area rugs... We also have two dogs, so we don't buy nice area rugs... we get the $19.99 ones and replace them 2-3 times a year after a dog pukes on them. I take them outside and clean the dog ick with a hose and a scrub brush, let it dry and keep them rolled up on one side of the garage. When I work under the car, I unroll one and use it until it gets too filthy or oil soaked to use.
I first thought that ductwork was for an A/C system that would blow across the garage floor... which would be nice here in FL. I bet a squirrel cage fan from an old A/C system would hook right up to some cheap galvanized ductwork done up like that and keeps things nice and cool.
