Hey all...Just joined and have been sniffin around for a while....been a member of the hamb for a long time now. I live in Australia and have a nice litle property in the mountains near melbourne...anyway, I have a 6mtre x 10mtr tin shed that has a 6 inch concrete slab poured in it. I have a long concrete driveway and an extra parking pay. My problem is I have bought a lift and have weighed up the pros and cons of having it in the shed or outside in the extra parking bay. Problem is the shed needs to be raised about 4 feet. I could set new posts inside beside old ones and jack each roof area up and lock and so on going around the whole roof 6 inches at atime.....would this be a big job. Has anyone done this? All that is required is to raise the roof as one and fill in the sides/ends...Ive talked to farmers that have done this with hay sheds etc....the slab in my shed is much more stable and level too for the lift.....anyway, thanks for listening and appreciate any feedback....very cool site...:pimpflash

You may be able to rent some "house jacks" from someplace. I don't sell them, but I've heard of them....contractors use them to lift a building and hold in position for foundation repairs and such. Finding one to lift 4' seems a bit too much though. You would probably have to do it a few inches at a time....Simplex Screw Jacks would probably work pretty well.

Good luck with the project! If you do it...I'd love to see the pics!

I wonder if you could come up with a way of using the lift itself for raising the roof...I suppose it all depends on the type of lift and its capacity, the construction style of the roof structure (is it trusses, rafters, or what) and how much the roof structure weighs. You'd have to figure out how to set cribbing or timbers on top of the lift to match up with the roof at the proper height, and figure out how to balance the whole thing so it didn't all crash in a heap and kill everyone.
