Something about using old tools I just really like. Maybe its the nostalgia of thinking about my granddad's and how they worked with what they had. I'm attracted to the simplicity and moving parts. I guess I'm still a kid that way. A sewing machine still fascinates me how it stitches. Anyway...

I have been looking at the old post mounted, hand cranked drill presses and just curious if any one uses one anymore?

And as silly as it may sound, has anyone tried to attach a motor to the hand crank?

I have seen old hand crank drill presses converted to motor driven through the years, those that I saw had always been rebuilt and appeared accurate, and very quiet. I lost an opportunity to purchase one years ago and I have always regretted not being able to scratch up the dough to buy it, it seemed like a real fine machine to me.

I think he was talking about old post drills, usually found in blacksmith shops, and kind of a fore runner to the modern floor standing drill press, except you mount them to a post in the barn, or shop. Usually very worn out with alot of runnout at the chuck when you find them these days.
