View Full Version : Old House, New Garage.

I can't take credit for constructing the garage. It was done by the previous owners. But it's good that it was built quite some time ago, as it would be impossible to build a garage of this size on the property today when you consider a 5' side setback and a 20' back setback.

When we bought the house a year ago, the garage was a basic 900 square foot unit with exposed studs, bare concrete floor, no electrical, and tilt-up doors with openers:

We upgraded the doors to carriage style doors to match the hundred year old house, added electrical and drywall, and epoxied the floor.

Hey, it ain't much, but it's better than what most people have in this old town ;)

Man those garage doors are way cool. They look like carraige doors and roll up like convetional garage doors? What material are they made of? :thumbup:

Is that a Delta air cleaner hanging from the ceiling? Been thinking about one for my shop. How well do they work?

Yes, his and hers BMW's. Her's is the M3. It was an engagement gift from me. Mine is the M5. That's a total of about 750hp :beer:

The garage doors were made by Amarr (http://www.amarr.com). They are steel made to look like wood. I added the hardware I purchased from a place called VanDykes Restoration (www.vandykes.com). They look good, are insulated, and I had them install privacy glass so nobody can see what's inside...

I installed the Delta air cleaner (three speed version) because the cars were getting some dust on them from all the woodworking I do. It helps. It's not perfect, but it helps.

I'm hoping to purchase a low-rise portable scissor lift in the next couple of months to make it easier to change wheels/tires/brake pads since I change those often.

Fun stuff :thumbup:

The "candy store" awnings are gone since this was taken. Built in 1904. All redwood constructions (siding, studs, trim work, almost everything) We're the second owners of record :thumbup:

The garage is down the driveway on the left side...

Your welcome for the links. VanDykes has TONS of stuff like the straps and handles I put on the house. I put some on my side gates to match the garage, too.

One question.

I can't figure out whats on your table saw, looks like a blade guard but with a motor attachment like an over head pin router?? Or am I seeing things on the bench behind the saw?

You can see the blade guard (black U-shaped tube) and the guards themselves are "up" because the saw is on a mobile base, and when I'm not using it, I roll the end under the workbench to get it out of the way.

I guess it's one of two things: On the extension of the saw, I've installed the Freud router fence and mounted my Porter-Cable underneath with a Jess-Em lift. Or you could be seeing the Delta Planer on the workbench just past the blade guard???
