This is a pretty cool site, who would have thought that there was a forum for garage-a-holics like myself. I built this myself and it took about a year. It's a three car detached garage with a loft. Footprint is 30'X36' with a 36'X16' loft upstairs. Ceilings downstairs are almost 11' upstairs 8'.

Thanks, I'm very proud of it. That photo was taken back in December. I'll post a more recent photo as I finished most of the landscaping around it now.

The roof pitch is 9/12....funny that you asked that because back in March of 2004 I fell off the roof.
I was dragging 4'X8' sheets of exterior OSB up there all day and at the end of the day I just had a lapse in my concentration and hit the ground pretty hard on my left side. Not having experience of working on the roof, I didn't tie myself. My wife drove me to the Emergency room and after 4 hours there, they determined that nothing was broken. I was very lucky because it was about a 20 foot fall and I could have very easily killed myself had I fallen the wrong way. I'm OK now but I was hurting for a long time.
I'll post some better photos, here's a photo of the loft upstairs. You can see the railing for the steps in the back and dormer windows to the left. It's still unfinished until I decide what I'm going to do with the space,

Looks great, & I bet the space will fill up fast. I lost a year with building my own too & felt like it would never end. Every evening, weekend, vacation day & even some lunch hours. Living 3-1/2 miles from work has some advantages.

And yes, someone must be watching over you. I know a guy who broke his hip working on a roof with less height, and he's had several surgeries, and still walks with a bad limp an a cain.

Plus it's been a "money pit" drain on me for the past year. BTW, I've lived in NY most of my life just outside NYC, my folks had a place in Hopewell Junction,NY and I spent many summers up there.

Yes, I believe that someone was watching over me also! I'll be 54 in July and I keep in pretty good shape by running. The doctor told me that it probably helps my bones stay pretty strong.
As far as the roof pitch, I shopped around for the trusses and I can tell you that there can be a big difference in price and design. The guys that I finally went with not only saved me about $2500 off my highest quote, but were able to design a truss that gave me almost an extra foot in width of the space upstairs.

That's cool, I was just through the 5 corners area at lunchtime today. :beer: There's a car cruise coming up at Adams Fairacre Farms next month, May 3rd from 5pm to 9pm. I know the person working there who runs the cruise. Her husband has a 1970 Plymouth GTX that's really nice. What kind of car do you have? Maybe I'll see you at the cruise.
