Yeap. That is the new style snap on torque wrenches. I don't remember off hand who made the old style wrenches ... I'll get back to you on that one (may have been CDI). When it comes to things with moving parts, snap on isn't always the best, its usually another company with a snap on logo. Buy CDI for less then half the cost. ALSO snap on air tools are garbage. As I have said before, don't buy the name buy the product. Just seems as though Snap On makes a really nice product most of the time; or buys it from someone else and tacks on a huge price.

A good friend who is a full time mechanic claims his IM6100 is the best air impact tool made; he makes fun of my Ingersoll Rand 2135 and my NitroCats ..

I LOVE my ir. Snap On is too heavy, under powered, and over priced for air tools. Blue Point is just garbage.

Snap-On makes the top-of-the-line product in many different things. But Snap-On making the best airtools? That's funny.
Your buddy will stop laughing when he has to borrow your TI to blast the crank pulley bolt off of a project car someday.

Does Snap-On own the company, or just buy their product and re-badge?

most percents that snap on made own the tools like sockets, wrenches, screwdrivers, prybar, toolboxes, and else. but for torque wrenches as few of they do the re-badge it....

Snap On either makes or owns the companies that make alot of thier tools. CDI makes snap on torque wrenches... for those who want a techwrench without the snap on price, pick one up from CDI. The Red Snap On grinders and sanders are made by suiox, whom snap on owns. Snap On makes the alumnum air tools in house. I talked to my dealer about snap on guns and he basically told me they have a bad reputation because they need alot of Volume to run, and people run them at high pressure but simply dont have the volume.
Its alot of money to spend on an impact. Actually, My dealer said the motors have a lifetime warranty and the rest of the gun a 2? year, and they have a high trade in value later on. IDK. Im happy with IR and Aircat.

Who wants to worry about air volume with a Snap On gun, when an Aircat or an IR will get the job done with less???

See thats the thing. He was explaing that the Snap On gun "has more torque" because these 1000ftlb guns dont actually produce 1000ftlbs, they simply loosen a nut tightened to 1000ftlbs. THe Snap On makes more ACTUAL torque. Either way, a 231 will handle the majority of jobs people will encounter.

why IR statement that 2135ti will bust the nut under 6 seconds as up to 1000 ft lbs???? i had rebuilt 2135ti as i bought it from ebay and was impressed with IR 2135ti as it is lightweight and powerful than other techs had in shop.
did i told you about they were happy that i got that 2135ti because my mac tool aw434 and snap on im5100 have missing part as no mufflers........ that 2135ti make less noise than my mac tool and snap on impact wrenches....

I have a Snap on 6100 and used it about two weeks until I compared it to an IR 231c. I tightened a bolt until it quit moving with the 6100 and then put the 231c on the same bolt and tightened it more. Ever since the snap on has sat in my toolbox and I just use the IR. A guy I work with in the shop with a IM6500 didn't believe me and after comparing the two, he has a 231c.

I bought my 6100 off snap on's website brand new and when you find out an impact for $100 has more power you feel like a dumbass. :headscrat

Hahah thats kinda funny ... But I bet you could unload that impact either for credit on a snap on truck or on ebay.
One of the guy's at work has a Snap On impact that he only uses when the 231C's wont remove something, but we also have over 40CFM too. Surprisingly, none of the Guy's use 2135's because they wear the body's out to quickly.

The shop I work at has plenty of air and I run a 1/2" i.d. hose for all my air tools so that isn't a factor in the performance. I tried to trade it in and wasn't even offered a hundred dollars and from what I have seen they don't usually bring much on ebay so it is sitting in my toolbox at home.

Pawn it or Craigslist? Im sure you can sell it to one of the "SNAP ON IS THE BEST EVER!!!!" types. Im surprised he didnt even give you 100$ for it

The 231C is a good gun. I just the weight and noise. I care about my hearing, and a 231 running two bays over is louder than my Nitrocat running right in front of me. When I used a 231, I wore earplugs. That's annoying.
The 2135 does have a durability problem compared to a tank-like steel gun like the IR231... My reasoning in buying the Nitrocat went like this:
(1)I know how long a 2135 will last me, and given the whopping price tag and relatively short life, it's not worth it.
(2) Let's assume the Nitrocat doesn't last any longer than the IR Titanium: Given it's half the price, is it worth buying one ?
I went with yes. I EXPECT the Nitrocat to require replacement or rebuild after about a year or two - pretty much any impact will last at least a decade in home use, but we're a lot harder on them, and run them all day.
I can stomach paying $100-150 for a gun that's really light and saves my hearing every two years. $300 is a lot harder to justify.

i live down the street from cdi and asked my snap on guy about it and he said thats were they make the snap on torque wrenches, adn also for me to go tehre if i even need calibration and go see a good friend of his.
my snap on guy told me that they own if not have a certain % in a company and htey put their names on their tools, like klien tools ranger and i forgot what else but if u look on the inside cover of the snap on catalog it has a list of companies they own and companies they partially own.

And they kick ass they are really nice grinders and sanders. I have 4 of the grinders and the pt250 cut off tool ( same motor) and they all are very nice.
As for the need for the 600-800 ft lbs of torque why?? Lets say they all lie like hell and they only make say 300-400 ft lbs. There is not normally any thing that tight on a car. Start torquing stuff to 300-400 ft lbs with a torque wrench ( like the mains on a big truck) and see how much of a work out that is.
