My tractor takes a beating on my rough and bumpy lawn. With all the bouncing around, it seems the current battery has a tendency to weep fluid from the top of the battery, making a mess. I'm tired of cleaning things up.

Do they make a non-spillable battery for lawn tractors? Maybe a gel cell or similar. If so, where could I find one? It's a JD LX series tractor.

Batteries Plus. This place has everything in the names of batteries. From car batteries to camera batteries. They will be able to get you what you want.

I got my last replacement jump pack battery from them. These batteries are a sealed, 12volt battery and they are close to the size of a lawn mower battery.

By the way, I don't believe all motercycle batteries are sealed batteries.

Checked on their site, but they only list one and it's not sealed.

Does it have those "caps" on the top of the battery like this one?

My Kawi doesn't have a sealed battery (cheapest one from Autozone), don't remember what the Duck has, but don't think it's sealed.

Both have taken naps without a problem with the batteries. That said, I'm going to be looking for sealed batteries next time they are due for replacement.

Look for an AGM battery. I've had very good luck with longevity with this type, especially in high vibration service. Find your local battery shop and tell them exactly what you want. I've had good luck with Morco, buut I'm not sure if its local or nationwide.

Got one from BatteriesPlus. That place is pretty cool. Nice people too. They also rebuild batteries for tools, too. I think the price was $30 per Ryobi 18v.

I'll post a pict a little later.

Are you sure the lawnmower is not overcharging the battery?

You must have a big tractor. I couldn't find an optima for mine.

JD 4200, too bad there's not a Optima battery that would fit.

Yea, I have had good success with Optima. I still have one that has got to be over 10 years old now.

I love the one I have in my car as well (red top), but I've heard rumors (and I mean rumors) that they changed something, and they aren't the same quality as just a few years ago.

LX100-series or later LX200-series? I know LX100's had this from the factory....

Try #3 below...part number PT17422. @ $3.00 and works with Exide batteries. Or get one and see if it fits whatever battery you are looking at. Just add a small hose to guide any acid to the ground.

Of course you can get the combo from the JD dealer as well. They normally sell a premium battery and a value battery, both similar in price to what you are finding at other places if comparing apples to apples in quality.
