I'll be coating my garage floor soon. I have one small crack on the "raised tier" in the back of my garage. I also have a "joint" / division line down the middle of my cement.

#1) What filler should I use before coating?

#2) How long should I wait after filling before coating the floor?

#3) Should I fill in the "joint/division" in the floor?

I have purchased the Rustoleum Industrial Epoxy, but I'm considering the Supercoat finish. It will be one of these.............. not completely comitted on which one however.

Any advice is much appreciated!

Hey Wolverine,

I replied to a similar thread a while back...that post can be found here:

As you will read, I did not like the crack filler I used and would recommend checking out the urethane "caulk".

Good luck...

One other thing.

I just noticed that you wanted to fill the cracks before coating. I called Rustoleum and they recommended not filling before the epoxy. Their explaination was that the filler, although it may seem "hard" will still be flexible. If the epoxy is placed over the filler and the slab flexes causing the joint to flex, the epoxy will crack...I think they used the word "shatter".

I believe that the U COAT IT brand sells a filler that is to be used before coating...It's been a while since I studied up on this, so I may be incorrect...

regards,

Jim

Found UCoatIt's crack filler here:

It looks like filling the cracks prior to installing the epoxy floor is recommended only when dealing with smaller cracks. Filling the control joints on a floor would therefore not be recommended.
