i did look at that website which you show us. it is pretty good price for good tools but it is out of stock.... so my question is how much you will use it ? weekend warrior? or more like medium or heavy do it yourselfer?

i own craftsman sae impact sockets set and it is good tools but most of sears dont carry that in stock while it must be order and mail to your address when you or i return broke tool to sears. but problem is i use a lot of metric impact sockets at my work. but i use a lot of craftsman chrome sockets at home and i have no problems.

if you use it for home then you would like look at Allens tools at menards because it is new tools and it is lifetime warranty. it sell set for much cheap than craftsman tools but it is made by same company of DANAHER.... i do own Allens impact socket (sae shallow) it is pretty good and strong. i have no problem with Allens tools. Allens impact sockets are full range in menards while you can make buy it what you need and you can have more sockets for less than 500 dollars.

if not sure about Allens then GP tools are good chance to use it for home use while i noticed some of techs have problems with GP because they just use and abuse it easy then it broke it....

I will second the comment about Allen tools. generally speaking, Allen = Craftsman Professional.

Allens tools dont have shallow or deep impact swivel socket but Allens have Swivel so you can change socket what you need to use. it is very good and it almost same with craftsman....

you would need go to Menards store to see what they display the tools. my local menards have lot of Allens tools and sell it for pretty good price but it is made in USA on all sockets, hex bits sockets, torx sockets, etc...

Allens sell deep impact socket from metric i think 10mm to 19mm and 21mm, for like 65 dollars. even i was upset myself because Allens sell 36mm deep impact socket for 17 dollars.... so well. hope you can get what you want from tools. i am work in dealership for my living so i need good tools and i would considering to buy more Allens tools if i need to buy....

Besides being out of stock ... the Craftsman set skips socket sizes in thier set ... that was a problem for me ... I only use my tools at home ... but I work on something almost every night and on weekends ... I hate it when I don't have the correct tool ... The fact that GP offered complete sets and that I read good review comments about GP impact sockets here influnced me to buy GP

The Craftsman impact sockets are a good deal for a USA made Lifetime warranted tool. When they are on sale it is almost impossible to find a better deal on a new comparable tool. The sets of 1/2" drive regular, deep, metric and fractional impact socket seem go on sale on a regular basis and are in store items. The most common sizes of 1/2 drive Impact sockets are available individually at most stores and are an easy warranty exchange. The 3/8" drive impact sockets are for the most part catalog/internet items. They do not go on sale often and to get them replaced you must wait for sears to mail them to you. You can still drop the broken tool off at your local store. The Craftsman impact sockets are of high quality so I would not worry about breaking them too much. Generally speaking Swivel Impact sockets of all brands are the most vulnerable to breaking, Followed by deep sockets.

I have mixed feelings about the imported impact sockets. I have a set of Harbor Freight impacts that I would not waste the $3 postage to send them back. Three of them cracked before even getting dirty. The 17 mm cracked taking the lug nuts off of our Jetta with a breaker bar. On the other hand I have some Sunnex, and Master Mechanic (Stanley) deep impacts that have been fine. I even have a set of Wal-Mart Popular Mechanics brand 1/2" drive regular impacts that I purchased to have at home when I was working as a tech. I have beaten the snot out of these sockets with no breakage. I suspect these were Stanley sockets as well by the looks of them. So the import stuff can be ok but often it is not that much cheaper than the Craftsman stuff when you get it on sale. Plenty of other reasons to buy USA made tools as well. You might also want to check out SK, but not on the Sears site since most of the SK stuff there is near list price. I am sure the Allen Impacts are good too, I do not have a Menards near me so the Allen brand stuff is mostly available from industrial hardware dealers at or near list price.

These Craftsman sets are on sale this week with an additional 10-20% off if purchased online

You can't go wrong with the GP sockets. Not that Craftsman sockets are bad either but you do not get the range of sizes.

Thanks,

Let me rehash an old thread. So any of your that bought GP impacts...any good?

Seeing if i can swing a complete 3/8" metric/SAE shallow, deep set. I can get an SK set for $140, GP for $85, craftsman (minus some sockets) for $170.

Based on that I'm leaning towards the SK.

I have the GP 1/2" deep 10mm-36mm set and the 3/8"-1 1/2" set. I think they are a great deal for the money. Just a word of caution, the 10mm-36mm set actaully skips 31mm. Anyone know why they do that? I noticed the SK kit is the same way.

Almost everything skips the 31MM, it must be a little to never used size.
