I was at a swap meet on saturday, and an older gentleman was selling off some left over contents from his father inlaws machine shop. I wound up with a Bonney Vise and Toolworks (the name dates it to between 1906 and 1921), and its full of Greenfield taps, as well as some lathe cutting tools, and many other cool small tools, including a very old Bluepoint miniature hack saw. Also, I got a very large Easton Tool and Machine bench vise, as well as a box of about 30 old nickolson files, an old Bluepoint 1-1/16 and 1-1/8 double box end wrench, a mini bench mount vise, and an "S" shaped 8" Bonney adjustable wrench. Total investment, $40.
I am going to have my friend bead blast the bench vise, and restore it to new. I may mill out the old jaws (they dont appear to screw in), and get a set of new replaceable jaws for it.
I really love the machinist chest. Im going to leave it just as it is, patina and all. Its pretty cool to imagine the history it has behind it.
There is something really cool about old tools.
