Re: why do you like fancy toolboxes?

I like nice things.

I also bought a $10,000 (retail) Snap-On box for $1,500 used. At that price I don't think it was any more than twice what a Harbor Freight box of comparable capacity would...

Re: The work you pay or would pay someone to do if.......

Drywall finishing is the only job I absolutely will not do. I'll hang drywall (although far from my favorite job) but I can't stand to spend days finishing it just to end up with a job that looks...

Re: Sweet New Pocket Tool

I didn't intend to bash the widget.

I actually think you said it best in the opening post. "It's a nice piece of art".

This is a tool forum, I think most people here appreciate quality and...

Re: Sweet New Pocket Tool

It's cute and I wouldn't mind having one but IMO it looks closer to a piece of swag I'd pickup at a trade show than a tool I'd shell out $45 for.

Granted as a piece of swag I'd expect it to be...

Re: How mad should I be at an honest mistake by the GF

No harm no foul. Life's too short to be upset about what hasn't happened.

Tell her you noticed, ask her to try to be more careful and leave it at that.

Re: Craftsman, strange combo wrench

I have a set of metric double open end wrenches with that open end. I can't remember the name at the moment. If I recall correctly they're supposed to be a high torque open end for damaged or frozen...

Re: Looking for a source for scale background grids for pictures.

All you need is a piece of white board, a sharpie, and a straight edge.

Just like making a white board chart, just different line spacing.

Re: Serpentine belt replacement

You have to unbolt the motor mount to replace that belt.

No big deal, just support the engine with a floor jack so the mount isn't under any stress.

Heck, living in CNY the hardest part of...

Re: Smart Phone or Dumb Phone- Poll

Smart phone for me.

I was spending ~$300 a year to keep minutes on my dumb phone.

I spend just over $500 a year on my smartphone and have unlimited everything. Reception about comparable,...

Scrap value estimate for an 18' aluminum boat

Hello Everyone,

I need to get rid of a boat. It's an 18' Blue Fin that's a near copy of a Starcraft Holiday.

Can anyone estimate what this would be worth as scrap? I was selling it on...

Re: Irrigating large area

If the water is only down 11' I would look for a 2" pump and drop a suction line down the casing. You won't get much done with 7-10GPM, with an increase in flow your problem becomes exponentially...

Re: Irrigating large area

Do you have surface water you can draw from? If not I'm not sure what good an irrigation pump will do you as you'll still be limited by the capacity of your well.

If your well is like our old one...

Re: Irrigating large area

What is your water flow?

You'll either need lots of water or lots of sprinklers to irrigate that large of an area.

If my math is correct a 6500 square foot sprinkler should throw a pattern...

Re: Angle grinder suggestions

Metabo for me. I have two of them (4-1/2" quick release) along with a DeWalt, Hitachi, Craftsman Industrial, and 9" Milwaukee.

The Metabo are by far my favorite, comfortable in the hand,...

Re: How are these used Starret v blocks

V-blocks come in various grades (accuracy). They can all be used for workholding but some of the more expensive more accurate sets are sold more for inspection purposes.

Re: Poll-safety switches

My Snapper has two keys, one to start the engine and one to allow the mower to operate in reverse. The reverse mowing lockout key is bypassed because the plastic key broke off in the lock, I probably...

Re: Bolens Eliminator Garden Tractor

U-haul truck might also work, heck depending on the 3/4 ton truck you have the u-haul might be lower. :D

Whatever you do long, sturdy ramps will be your friend. I use 2x12 oak planks (true 2"x12")...

Re: Bolens Eliminator Garden Tractor

There's no better time than the present to learn how to tow a trailer. Go down to your local rental yard and rent the longest trailer your truck can pull (it will pull nice and be easier to backup)....

Re: wipe an old laptop to dispose of it ?

If you don't use epoxy to seal the holes you drilled through the drive your sensitive data can fall through the holes and be stolen.

You've heard of "security holes" right?

I agree with...

Thanks for all the opinions so far, overall it sounds pretty positive!

I didn't realize the Element only has four seats, it makes sense seeing how the seats fold but never dawned on me before....

Re: Honda Element opinions?

Many of the Elements I see for sale locally are five speed and comparable in price to the automatics. Many are also high miles. Other than the drive-shaft are there any other major issues you see...

Re: Honda Element opinions?

I can legally swap in whatever I want. I just can't stomach dropping even a thousand dollars into a Van that's not worth much more than that.
