Re: Tell me about this bench grinder

Yes, but it's not all that easy, unless you have a lathe.
The guard is also a bearing retainer.
You might be able to get a replacement part for a buffer to convert one over.

Re: Any Rockwell belt sander experts out there

[/QUOTE]

Looks good, but maybe you should have used a TEFC motor because of the grinding dust. I seem to have gotten away with it on my sander though

Re: homemade band saw

2500 FPM is going to be a little slow for "optimal" wood cutting.

Re: homemade band saw

Just fantastic, like it a lot.
What size are the wheels?
I take it this is for cutting metal and not for wood.
Looks like my old West Side Iron works 36" or maybe an old Tannewitz.
You need to...

Re: lathe and drill fluids

It's oil that dissolves in water, and usually used as a coolant for cutting tools.
It keeps the machinery from rusting as well (some are better at this than others).

Rustlick 50/50, greenish in...

Re: Ever think of giving up the air compressor?

No way never.
Would have machines with bearing failure in no time flat, without air.

Re: Old Craftsman belt sander

Used to have one just like that, was a pretty good unit.
It finally bit the dust and was replaced with a Makita.

Re: The one tool never to cheap out on?

Don't try to do any welding on the top cover as they are made out of pot metal.
Top covers are really hard to get, I found 2 new ones at an...
