Re: Small shop/garage build in Arizona

I like your build, I'm in Mesa & also was limited to 10' height.
I went with 8' walls, 20' wide. I used shingles for roofing. All this works ok but I
Wish I had more head room like you have.

A few things, if the car doesn't run it is hard to make the turn onto the lift. Keep car min of 3' from wall. Like doing a tire change, you need room to lift tire.

Re: Gap under post-tension slab?

We have expansive soil in Arizona. It can move when wet. It can crack footer type foundations. The fix for this as I understand it is the post tension slab. The ones I have seen are 6" thick & then...

Re: workbench top over 3/4" osb

Yes, Masonite. I held it down with finish nails & then polyurethane finish. Looks good after 10 years. If it gets bad it's an easy to replace

Re: Thinking of garage heat - Infrared?

I had heaters like thoes in a covered open shed type shop I worked at. They are good as they heat objects, not air.

Re: auto mechanics, how often you will used 1/4" drive

I used snap on flex 1/4" sockets working on Chevy Duramax diesels. They were small enough to get on the bolt, 3/8 wouldn't fit on some fasteners.
