I have used a liquid bonding agent that is brushed on concrete to help with adhesion. I used this when extending a storage slab floor, worked good.

Those look like joists to me. Rafter ties are attached further up the rafters. IMO you could put 2x6 on 16 or 24 oc and have a nice storage above.

I put the sensor in a vise on the hex nut part . Juat start removing material with plyers. There is ceramic inside, break it off. The wire is removed. I did this 10 years ago, memory fading. Try it...
