While I was in Australia, I spent quite a bit of time hanging out with Ben Thomas. Ben is one of the big figures behind the traditional hot rod movement in Melbourne and an all around swell guy. He also has one hell of a shop that was covered a few m...

I have seen his first two shops and always admired the set ups Ben has. Both places would be right at home here on the GJ. That Video is actualy in his second shop in Collingwood as he has since moved to a new shop in Heidelberg. I have not as yet been to the 3rd shop and not sure which shop you actualy visited as I am not sure when Ben (Lowsquire on the HAMB) moved to his new location. The video is well done.
Issue 9 Fuel magazine will be launched at Rancho Deluxe this weekend and Ryan was interviewed for that issue. Something I mentioned in another post here http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/s...d.php?t=139756 and a post over on the HAMB.

I enjoyed watching this again. He sure seems like a genuine fella and I always admire someone who can spend their time and earn a living doing what they really enjoy. Not to mention...do it well. The thing that stands out to me after seeing this again is that there's a lot to be said for not being "over-done". His shop, his cars and even he himself...nothing over done...just classic style through it's simplicity. Very cool....

It's guys like Ben that make our hobbie great. Not like some of the others getting around.

I was hoping to get to see the new shop in Heidelberg for the launch of Fuel Magazine issue 9 (has the interview with Ryan Cochran) but the weather is so bad I am going to have to miss it. Gale force winds here. I will just have to hope I get to see Bens new place another time.
On the Web > This was at garage one http://www.woodentoypublishingco.com...hp?id=3&mag=38 This is garage two http://www.ranchodeluxe.com.au/ This is the new place garage three that Ryan would have visited and as yet I have to visit.

The new place is smaller but still has a fantastic feel with an amazing amount of natural light for a factory of that era. Ben seems to be able to pick 'em.
