I am getting all my ducks in a row to start my shop. I will be a 30 x 40 metal bulding with a 40 x 40 foundation. the foundation is what I have question about. It was to be 4" thick with #3 re bar 16 on center with perimeter beam with #5 re bar in the beams then 2 interior beams with #5 re bar also.
I just got back from the engineer who told me that the foundation is minimum for this bulding. This is what the builder said would be plenty. The engineer said I need to have Post-Tensioning foundation in stead of re bar. Is this over kill or right on? Cost is an issue but should not be the only issue.

I hired a decent concrete contractor who figured that all out for me. I paid $8200 for 30x50 for the concrete.
The company that built my building sucked!!! But, I did find a good contractor out of Farmersville that fixed it!! Send me a private message you would like some names and numbers.... If you haven't signed any contracts, it couldn't hurt to call them. |

The contractor was Heartland Steel Buildings. The manufacturer was Nucor. Your right, Heartland screwed it up... |

I'm probrably within 15-20 miles of you both... and I'm going to build a 30x36 this year...(pole barn style -on a budget---meaning, I'm doing all but the concrete pour). I'll send pm's on who you would recommend for concrete. I have yet to do any dirt work... but I'm gonna get there. My shop will be nothing special, galvalume 5 rib metal (bought from a company in Celeste). If you need any help, If I can, I will.
Oh, and I have a concrete company within 4 miles of me.. (Rhyno used to be there as well... but they went bankrupt) |

Hey formek, any updates on your building? I'm building a new house, outside of Melissa.
I have a 24x36 pole barn, already on my property. It has a dirt floor, that I want to pour concrete in. I would also like the build my dream shop, and just use the pole barn for the tractor and overflow. But got to get the house built first.. |
