That's a lot of money for a slapped together building. You should be able to build a more attractive building that is better built for a lot less even if you buy some tools. Besides, that is one of the most butt ugly buildings in that style. The one in the eBay link is much better looking.

I sell this kind of building for a living. It's a piece of cake to sell against this building. Slam dunk every time. If you are going to have it built see if you can find a little better looking design by a good company. It will probably cost less, but even if it costs slightly more you will be better off.

Just my opinion. I am sure someone out there will say how much they like this building and I am glad they do. I am speaking in general and there is always an exception or two.

no way would I buy a building like that from HD. I'd be afraid it will fall apart in a year, and way over priced. I built a 12x12 and finished it out as an office with drywall, paint, trim, carpet, wiring and lights for just over $3 grand. 22rifle is right, you can do way better than that ugly thing...

I might have a better pic somewhere

Are you sure you didn't mean to type 20x22?

Anywho, build it. Get your materials from an actual lumber yard though. The big box stores lumber blows at best. If you are getting a complete project, the actual lumber yards won't be much more, once you figure in delivery fees. If you get it from an actual yard and you run a piece of sheeting or a couple of 2x4's short, they will throw it on a truck and bring it to you on a load that is going that way.

I priced their 12x12 several years ago, and after seeing the building and the materials used, I built my own. Real lumber, no "termite barf", solid framing and built to my own requirements. It took me a long time because I did 99% of it all alone, and as I had $$ for materials. Hardie siding or Hardie planks are the best for exterior - no painting unless you want to paint, and gauranteed for 25 years.

I put it up in two days by myself (with help from my 5 year old). It was honestly pretty easy and mine could easily have gone up in a few hours with a couple guys to help out.

The biggest time waster is nailing everything together. I highly recommend buying/renting a framing nailer and a roof nailer!
perfect craigslist opportunity..

I'd build it myself because I'm frugal.

I've heard nothing but bad about those buildings as far as long-term durability. IMO, you could put vinyl siding, a good steel door (or even a garage door) and decent windows in it with good shingles, insulation, and drywall, etc for not much more than the $3500 you're talking about. If you're not good drawing up plans yourself, you can probably find a college drafting student that would help you for next to nothing as well. I did all the plans to my garage and it really wasnt that hard (I took a drafting class in high school). I even live in the city where they nit pick over everything.

Look at it this way, I did an entire 20x32 garage (concrete work and all) and hired minimal help (Had someone else side and roof it and do some framing) for under $20K. No way you couldn't do it WAY nicer and come in well under that $6100 price tag.

Not sure where you're from, but if you have any Amish people living near you, go ask them. They have awesome workmanship and they are very very reasonable on prices... they won't need those plans either.

Its a 16x16 with 2 story, and double barn style door.

They are running a special this month, for $6100.00 (taxes included, labor, final price). on this building.. it was around $8000 last year.

They claim they can built in one day.

Or i could buy the plans on ebay ($10 @ http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=140533861399 ) and build it myself for around $3000 or $3500 in materials ..

What would you do?

I dont really like just giving $3000 away (in labor). choices.. choices..

yeah. i know im cheap..
Have you actually priced out that materials list?

Lots of these store bought sheds are 24" framing and all the tricks to cut materials costs.

If you do it yourself, you could build it better for a small incremental cost increase.

I wouldn't be surprised if the materials is actually more than the $3000-$3500 you are estimating.

Standard architectural shingles alone are right at $100 a square, plus the other stuff. That T-111 siding is pushing $30 a sheet.

I spend about 20 to 25 hours on a 10x20 and have built hundreds. If you could build that two story in a week you would be kicking ass. I think its a good looking building.

Hey, Dirtywhiteboy I'm looking at building a 12x20 also and was wondering if you had plans and materials list for the one you built. I was thinking about getting the 12x20 gambrel shed kit from lowes for $3500 plus shingles and extras.http://www.lowes.com/pd_102651-57658...irect=#Savings

Hey MDALE, I had them on my old pc, but cannot locate them on my laptop.

I'll look for a printed copy to scan, but I found them online somewhere for $20 or so.
here is a better view

I could really use plans for a 12x12 or similar if anyone has them handy.

If you can use a circular saw, a square, and a tape measure, you can build that shed.
