Can't beat free, but Northern tool has a nice cart I would not mind having that has drawers for the weld stuff. They also have a bigger cart that I could have both the welder and plasma cutter on.

Haha, mine too. I've got to redo it eventually, I have a huge gravel parking area, and it ***** having to carry it across there...

But man, some of you guys have serious skills. I'm pretty impressed.

My first gate, did the stone walls and pillars, too.

I'm just pleased its level, actually swings, and hasn't fallen down yet

Nothing pretty here....but it's Magnesium.

Broken ear on VW gearbox. We use em on formula cars. That's why there's already welding all over it.

Ready for more abuse.

OK, not sure if Ive posted any of this here before or not, Im gonna try to post some pics using photoshop, but dont remember how, so bear with me. These are a couple pics from stuff I made at work : this is a table I made for my cutoff saw, with stock storage

this is the cart I made for my welder at work, Miller Shopmaster with wire feeder and spool gun, machine works good for stick, the spool gun works ok, but the wire feeder has not fed smooth from day one, not very happy with it at all.....

a couple other items, a "screw" press, I didnt build the screw portion or handle, the screw came from an old valve, I built the frame, the old frame was not adjustable

bronze piece is a bushing for a valve that I made (we have a bunch of them that we replace every once in a while)

the piece to the left of it is a "spanner wrench" I made to adjust the bushing and also to remove it
this is a large "nut" I made to test the threads when I machine them, and also hold the bushing in the chuck for machining

a couple more, I apologize if it doesnt work, hopefully it will....
step plates I made for pressing bearings and seals

this is the setup I used to make some stainless slotted screws for the same valves

the finished screw, used in the lever that takes the valve from hand to motor position

Have you tried using a felt lubricating pad on the wire before it enters the feeder?

Also, the enclosure for the wire spool keeps most of the contaminants off, but sometimes the spool will drag on the housing and make the wire feed a little funny without the proper tension.

Late this summer I made a small running gear to use with my garden tractor. I am planning on adding a wooden bed and stake sides in the next few weeks.

That lamp looks great! I wish my wife would like furniture like that. If I were a bachelor again, I'd order 500' of 2"x2"x065 steel tube and go to town.

Maybe I can convert her. I made a necklace display this morning for one of our friends that makes jewelry. She seemed to like it. I also welded up two hemispheres for a forming dolly.

Did a bit more on my table, middle this week i got the red bars welded in for the welder "cradle". The angle iron cut to set inside so that you can fit any width welder you want. Talking about angle iron, boy do i love bedframes, we get mass amounts of them at work and i can buy them for 2-3 bucks a frame, thats alot of steel for very little money. Also i picked up a new skil grinder 6 amp 4.5" beats the old HF one it replaced in power and cutting speed, but longevity, only time will tell that. All in all success full the red bars hold up to my 300 pound *** jumping on them so i think i did ok.

I make small stuff as I need it. I built these out of square tubing to hold my trailer spare tires. I was moving them around all the time based on what I was hauling. I put them in the back to help take weight off the nose of the trailer. They seem to work fairly well so far.

Ninja crack repair.

Kind of a strange place for cracks to appear..... looks like it may of originated from the bend in the sheet Alu.

Clean of all the paint with a scotch brite disk and groove the cracked areas.Then slight torch heat to burn off any paint or oil that may still be in the crack.

Clean with Acetone and wire brush to make sure it's spotless.

The finished weld repair. Not as pretty as ZT's work, but just as strong.

I gotta build myself a cyclone separator one of these days. The shop vac is ******** noisy and spreads the dust all over. grrrr

3/4'' angle iron framing for windows.

I made a flange out of 1 x 1/8 inch flat bar for both the door and tank to be
able to glue a gasket for sealing and also for rigidity.
I also have a second door on the other end.

I recently finished a transmission swap and noticed I was leaking fluid, from the dip stick :headscrat

I pulled it out and found it cracked around where the o-ring sits, so without any choice, out came the welder.

I carefully welded up the crack all the way around and then, without having any of the tools I'm used to having (new home owner), I clamped an angle grinder to my table with a cutting blade and made the channel for the o-ring.

After I ground and test fitted I applied some RTV, baked it in a 100w light for ~20 minutes, put the o-ring on and installed. No leaks :bounce:

My father and I built a tube bender as a project a few years back. It was our first fab project - we were a bit nervous as the precision here was important.

A pile of steel was bought, measured, cut and prepped before continuing.

Drill, drill, drill drill....... drill some more, and did I mention some more drilling?

Ok - we drilled a few holes, always stepping bits and went through probably a gallon of thread cutting oil (we found this stuff to be the best lube, bonus was Menard's carried it and it was cheap)

I welded and ground the pivot block

Then came the clamping and welding - lots of careful measuring and clamping.

Hey, a couple of hacks can measure, cut AND weld while retaining square!

Getting there-

I shot some hammered paint on it - I'm damn good with a rattle can

I've also made quite a few drive shafts for our trail rigs - our rigs are trailer queens, but I've had my truck over 65mph without any vibrations.

I did a nice single pass over the joints and run over everything with a fat 2nd pass to make sure everything is set. On this drive shaft I've welded the CV head to the tube and now made the shaft longer. I've killed a D70 R&P with the drive shaft already, I'm not worried about it :thumbup:

Started on some rock sliders and steps for my truck.

I'd classify my skills as mediocre when it comes to sticking two flat edges together, but throw in the round stuff, and forget about it.

Is there a trick? I find myself making very exagerated arm movements as I work around the tube just to stay in front of weld puddle. And then, as you can see, I get about 25% of the way around and have to take a step around the work piece. It always makes a little jump, or wobble in the bead size. You can see it in every weld. How do you prevent that?

hey guys, first post

as to the circle tricks, im currently a 1st year apprentice metal fab for a rally car shop, so im working my way through the learning process also.

The boss told me the most important aspect is a dry run. Make a pretend/practice sweep and make sure you can do the whole sweep in one arc. If not, break it up into even sections and practice the **** out of your starts and stops to minimise visual and structural impact.

As to my projects, im currently of work for 2 months due to being a retard and breaking my finger lol, so i have nothing awesome to show ... but will be sure to get some as soon as im back

Buddy wasn't happy with his adapter that he has to run on his 427 ford. It's a dove intake, and he has to adapt it to a dominator flange, it makes thing really tall. I guess dove at one time made a few intakes with dominator flanges but they are not currently available. Or so I've been told....

So I called in a favor from a friend, and had him mill off .750 inch off the intake, and also .750 inch off the adatper

We took it to my shop and welded the adapter to the manifold

And after some grinding inside, smoothing out the transitions and opening up the inside to the larger flange it came out pretty good
