Has anyone ever used the trafficMASTER Garage Tiles? I bought these from The Home Depot and installed them last weekend. I just wanted to hear from others that have used this product and the long term effects.

Perhaps you could post some pics of them and tell us your first impressions of the product?

I just checked Home Depot's website and tmflooring.com about them. They are at least made in the US. Would love to see some pictures and feedback?
Just went and seen the tiles they have in stock and since i haven't seen the other styles i guess they are good. The are NOT made in the US as the website video let me on to believe. They are made in Taiwan. Last edited by TrixR4Kids; 10-07-2007 at 08:00 AM. Reason: adding update |

I saw the tiles at Home Depot. Looked to be decent quality but I am also looking for soemone's experience with these. Apparently the tiles are pretty new to Home Depot as I asked the guys where the other colors were. The had gray and charcoal in store for $2.49 sq. ft. All other colors on the website are listed as $2.99 sq. ft.

I bought 3 boxes over the weekend in the charcoal and silver at the store. Unfortunately, I can only buy a few boxes per payday though due to limited $$ but at least I am making headway towards getting the floor done in increments vs. never getting done at all with the full purchase. These seem to meet my needs and are reasonably priced. Click link for pictures.

They come in a glossy finish. MilMod's yellow with shop lights on it really stands out more than my gray though.

I was in a home depot the other day and saw these tiles
The ones I say really looked cheaply made and the colors were not even. I was surprised after seeing how great the garage photos above looked. Maybe these were just a bad batch?

Mine seem to be pretty even as far as color, once they are down on the floor they look great. I had a few different tile samples that I looked at before I decided on the Trafficmaster. My decision was mostly based on convenience, price and being able to buy 3-4 boxes per month. I have other projects that have higher priority than having the floor done. If I had the money to drop all at once I would have tried to work a deal with Racedeck though. They are the standard in modular flooring and seem to stand by their product 100%.

Apparently the retail chain has begun the process of discontinuing this product or in any case has returned and or cancelled orders for tens of thousands of square feet of this product. The company that manufactured the product came to us and offered to let us by tout the tiles at pennies on the dollar.
At first we were very interested….. Then we started to learn a couple of things about the tile. 1. Many, if not most of the tiles are actually made in China 2. One tile ways about 9.7 oz. Compared with our Coin tile which is over 1 pound for the same size piece 3. The square reinforcements from the underside show through to the top of the tile 4. We’ve noticed the tile has a tendency to crease at the edges especially if you need to pull them apart. 5. Four injection points are painfully obvious on the top of the tile. 6. These tiles are currently a closeout for the manufacturer. While they have the equipment to make more they would never again be available at these prices 7. The tiles only claim to hold 10,000 pounds which is half to 1/5th of what you will find from other tiles YET some websites are advertising them as being commercial quality! While everyone has their own opinion, even at $1 a square foot (which is what we would have sold them for) we simply did not feel that our customers would be happy with them. The name brand, which is contained in the name of the original thread, is actually a reputable brand that a large chain retail store has spent years establishing. Perhaps my biggest surprise is that they would allow websites not affiliated with them to continue to use their mark to sell a product that was made for them. It is interesting that some websites have decided to sell this product and market it as a high quality made in the USA product. Since we herd from the horse’s mouth that most of it was made in China (especially the dark grey) we don’t know how that is right or even legal. This puts us in a very difficult situation. While we don’t want to go around bad mouthing a product or the people who sell it we feel that consumers need to know what they are getting into BEFORE they get garage floor tiles. That’s part of why we ALWAYS offer free samples of garage tile before our customers purchase anything. If anyone REALLY wants to see the tile before you buy it online, let me know and I will send you one (subject to availability as I did not order a ton). Most of you on the site are consumers, what would you say is the best way to handle a situation like this? |

Interesting product. I just picked up 8 boxes at $5 a box and THD. Blowout sale. I intend to use these on a cement floor in a storage room. Just foot traffic. Hope this is the bargain that I hope it is...
If not, and they turn out funky--I'll return them... |
