Dimple Dies

The first person who completes a project with the dies should start a thread called "Show me your Dimple Die projects using Claude's dies" and we can all add to it. If you also post on the HAMB or one of the off-road forums you should talk up Claude's dies and help him generate some business. Those guys are always interested in this type of thing.

FYI for all future dimplers, HF has the punch on sale this month for $79 plus the 20% coupon brings it to $63. I finally got mine and plan to get my dimple dies on the 1st. Can't wait! Please hold a pipe set for me!

Ok, so here is what is now available for you guys.

The 6 piece 1/2'' to 1 3/4'' set has now grown to 13 different sizes, in 1/4'' increments. Up to 3.5'' diameter.
They will be on the Virages web site this week.





Also, now for the Pipe sizes, we now also have a 3.0'' Die.

I checked at the store and they do have them on sale for $79 no coupon needed so you can use the 20% off one. I also found out that online they have it for $74.95 plus a flat rate shipping of $6.99. I have not found an online 20% coupon yet but at least if someone wants one and they are not close to a HF, they can at least order one and save a few bucks.

Got my pipe size set yesterday and the pictures posted here don't do them justice - incredible workmanship. I can't wait to use them. Thanks to Claude for making these for everyone.

Thank's Jim, the latest pics of the Dies were taken before they were 100% complete. I have to make a proper photo shoot to put up on here and on the Club Virages web site.

The pipe set is 6pcs. From 1/2'' to 2.0'' and the 3.0'' pipe size is separate.

The standard set is also 6pcs and goes from 1/2'' to 1 3/4''. The other 7 pcs are separate and they go from 2.0'' thru 3 1/2'' in 1/4'' increments.
I should have time to figure it out later this week and put them up for sale on the web site.
I'm thinking there will be the small set, a big set and individual pricing.

Hey guys, found this thread during an internet trawl looking for dies. Will be ordering a set when I get paid, assuming they can be shipped to Australia... Claude, can you please confirm this?

Also, thought I'd try and help Claude out by posting this in another forum I use as there are a number of fabricators who might be looking for a set. http://www.nissansilvia.com/forums/i...owtopic=518797

Claude said he's making the dies out of C12L14, which is a low-carbon leaded, resulphurized, and rephosphorized cold-rolled 'free-machining' steel used for screw-machines and its good machining and surface-finsh properties, not for hardness or high-strength applications.

Want the dies to be hardened? You need to use a hardenable steel alloy in order to do that. C12L14 ain't. Claude said he was trying some other steel alloys, but cost of the metal and machining were some 'issues'.

Tapered Roller Bearings are turned from low carbon steel, for ease of screw machine or CNC turning.
Before laser marking, they were stamped & chamfered, prior to entering HT operations.
Then "green stock" went into a electric fired carburize furnace for approx. 4 hour cycle @ +1700 degrees, and then quickly quenched in oil. (the case hardened wear layer was 1/32" wall thickness)
Finally went through a hardening furnace (quench again) and then a tempering furnace (stress relieve), to remove the steel brittleness (of induced carbon deposit) while maintaining the wear resistance.
Steel shot wheelibrate to clean up (product now called hard stock) and off to finish grind operations.
Induction skin hardening, is also another expensive process, that can replace the old Brg. Mfg. method.
