Thing to mount my mountain bike on my motorcycle so I can take my bicycle to work and ride it around after work. I have also taking it out of state to a race track to have something to ride around while at the race.

Not as nice as some of the projects on here but I made it myself. 1.5 inch tubing with just an 11ga top. I still do not have drywall in my garage so I need to roll it outside for welding projects. So I needed it fairly light. Still need to add some expanded metal for the bottom shelf and some tool hangers. The harbor freight welder run 100% better with Lincoln wire and tips.

Had 2 welding projects for today. First was to make a funnel holder for transfering my motor oil from the drain pan to a 5 gallon plastic gas can. I used what I found in my bucket of scraps - a section of 2-1/2 x 3/16 flat bar, a 18" long piece of 1/2" round bar from an old plant table (had to straighten it in the vise and grind off old welds), a piece of 3" sch 40 pipe and a couple of inches of 3/4" square tube. Drilled a 1/2" hole in the square tube so it could slide up and down the 1/2" bar and let gravity hold it in place. Then tig welded the square tube to a 1" length of 3" pipe, and tig welded the 1/2" round bar to the flat bar. Here's the result after sandblasting, but not painted yet.

The other project was my welding table. The top is a piece of 36" x 63" x 3/8" plate. The legs are 4" x 4" x 1/4" square tube and the horizontal braces are 2" x 2" x 1/8" square tube. I made mounting plates for the wheels from 1/4" x 4" flat bar. Here it is so far without the wheels bolted on yet. Still need to clean it up and paint. Sorry for the poor pics, it was after dark when I stopped to take these.

Canoe hauling trailer. Presentlyon hold until I find out how wide to make the spaces. I don't have a canoe, so until the customer tells me how deep his canoes are, the trailer goes on the back burner.

Anyone feel like measuring their canoe?

Thanks

A little Christmas Cheer fabrication...

Here are some shots of a 36" sphere that we just did in the shop I work for. They are made from 3/8" round solid bar aluminum.

After 18hrs Monday, 8.5hrs on Tuesday and 6hrs today ten of those beauties are going to a Atlanta shopping mall and the eleventh is the companies show piece. They get covered like a Christmas ornament that shoots snow out of it and lights up.

I will also add that another of the members here (Mattdwelder) also participated in this little venture and I will have to say Thanks to this guy for coming in at midnight on Monday after working all day to relieve me so I could go get some sleep. Thanks again Matt!

^Defiantly one of the better weld I performed in this project^

Now with all that said I'm friggin ecstatic that I'm now in a place that I can further my craft and venture beyond steel. I have been waiting for three years to get the chance to begin to lean the art of Tig welding.

NICE ! What's the size of that ? Looks big. Nice looking Miller too.
As far as your tattoo , it is recommend to get one for every project. This is where a long sleeve shirt helps. I know, we all get it now and then. Just think
how good it will feel when it heals. Nice job.

The sphere had a 36" diameter.

The Syncrowave 250dx is nice machine but I have to admit I miss using the Dynasty 350 at my previous employer. The Dynasty machines are ten times the machine of the syncrowave.

That was through a long sleeve button up shirt... Were the sleeve button and the arm has the opening at the wrist was open just enough to let my bare skin to touch the material that was just welded.

Just a quick little project I cobbled up while waiting for paint to dry (seriously, I was painting some walls in the garage.). I bought an arbor press a week ago and needed a place for it. I fabricated this stand entirely out of re-purposed materials. The legs were from an old drafting table that was stored up in the attic for the past ten years, the rest of the metal came from the scrap bin. Not terribly fancy, but pretty decent for the price. :thumb

Thanks, it's cool. You could be a sniper, being able to position your arm to hit that small open area of your shirt.

Hey, man! I'm planning to build a stand very similar to that one.
  1. how tall is your stand?
  2. do you believe you could rock the tar out of that press in every direction with that high center of gravity?

.

Wow, It's wierd how that can happen. I had a hexagon shaped tattoo like that from work where I managed to fit the top of a Yarway steam trap through the cuff of my sleeve.

But enough of that. Nice work and welds :)

To be entirely honest, I did very little measuring when building it everything was sized to suit the meterials and the press itself. The stand is about 3' high though. Its quite stable front to back which is the primary direction for forces to be applied. Side to side its fine unless I were to hang something heavy out sideways, but a work support would take care of that. In use for my needs, I don't really need the force capacity of a three ton press, mostly I went for that size to get the throat capacity, so the stand will serve very well for me. If you were concerned about the sideways stability, it would be pretty easy to add a bit of width.

Im guessing that not many of You are sleeping in Your welding project:lol: This is mine, although it was made 15 years ago. Still holds up as it should, and will continue to do so for my lifetime.

I hope this is not a repeat. Please visit www.flickr.com/photos/connshane for photos of my engine stand. I built it three years ago with the intention of using it as a test stand. It needs a little more fabrication to get there, but not much. I got the idea for it from Bildsport[?] Magazine, a Swedish publication about automotive performance. I just more or less modified it to suit my own purposes.

Nice work! Can I ask what you used as a finish on what appears to be a glass topped hall table? I am very new to metal working finishes and would like to move past paint! :)

Thanks,
Duker
