I think this is a great forum with lots of great people. But I think I would have been banned more than once for my comments. Actually, a lot of us would have been.

Personally, I will never hit that report button. No matter how I feel about the post. I am all for Ryan running this place as he see's fit, but don't expect me to police it.

Sounds good, I have been here awhile now, and some of my posts are really done for humor, in some cases, just to make someone laugh. Some of the racy avatars and garage joking, seems to lighten this place up a little, in a good way IMO. My point is, maybe some of us have become too "comfortable", myself one of them. Whatever your wishes are, I and most others will happily oblige, this is a good forum.

I'll report blatant misuse. i.e. If merk posts one of his gals, no problem in my book. If someone is making a "LMAO" post, no red flag for me.

Someone using real excessive bad language, and trashing another member, for no reason, I would report it. Blatant political stuff, unfortunately anything economy related becomes a political thread, and that is too bad, because alot of our tool purchases revolve around the economics or manufacturing, autos, etc..........

I report the real junk, it would be harder for new members to decipher what is what, I would think.

Opinions are great... and great threads come from folks that have a difference of opinion. However, if you have to run down another member in order to express your opinion, you aren't going to last long around here.

Well said. People cant follow the rules. It will be like an Ol School Hamb Ban.

I don't report people, and I never have, but I think it is wrong for someone to come in and hijack a guys thread because you have issues with what kind of car he drives.

If someone comes here asking for help, he or she should get it. If you don't like his car, or where he lives, etc., don't help the guy. If you don't think he has the right type of garage, or you have issues with how much money a guy makes, fine. Going on and on about it just seems bitter.

Maybe it is just me, but as a long time lurker, things seem to have escalated recently into open bash fests. Once that becomes the new standard, that will be the forum. I'd rather see Ryan decide what is fair, and not me or the bashers.

I just like garages and workshops, machines and cars. I like people who have garages and workshops, and even as a builder of 30 years + , I am often humbled and awed by what I see here. Just be aware that if someone is stepping up, it may not just be an effort to make the complainers happy.

Maybe I just happen to be the Gay owner of a foreign car with a show garage and a Chinese engine stand, which I only use for display because I am rich and I don't work on cars. Or maybe I just have a low tolerance level for intolerance. At least I try to be polite about it.

I can keep my mouth shut, and I will try. This place is a treasure. Treasure it.

you know guys, rather than be a narc and run to ryan with petty stuff, be a man and deal with it yourself. either ignore it and call the guy or gal out on your own. i think in most cases just telling someone either in the thread or in a pm that they are out of line will solve the problem. i for one can see myself thrown out by a bunch of anononymous wannabee watchdogs. i will probably never even know why because that report button goes to ryan and noone will ever see who sent it or for what reason.

I'm "all in" with the new program. Ben to, and left, many forums in the past that got out of hand.

BUT, I do love a good flame thread...in the right spirit.

Don't type or try to convey ANYTHING you wouldn't let your mother see and I think you'll be alright. Politics can also be discussed without attacking someone.

I truly enjoy this forum and all the opinions and ideas that the members share...this is what once made our country and this forum great, the freedom to have opinions and express them.

Expressing an opinion as an insult.....no.....NO freedom to do that....not here or anywhere.

I've been here for a couple years and while I don't post each and every day in conversation style like some do, I am all for keeping the place focused on tools and garages. The drama, highly controversial comments and arguments can be left to the tv set soap operas.

Also, I second the suggestion on giving someone a reset if they go clean for a year with proper behavior.

So, where is the picture of the engine stand?

Ryan, your plan sounds good, basically it's done like this on other forums, the mods just don't "put it out there." You definately have a great forum here, I've only been here a short time myself but have done my share of postwhoring.

BTW, I guess I should have came across this thread before I got slightly pissed in the pick up/ bad driver thread.

I hadn't opened this thread yet, but since I had read most of the others, I figured maybe I could offer some help to a guy cleaning out his place......

Now, after reading and considering - I'm ALL FOR IT!! With one IMPORTANT request:

- that a guys comments aren't taken out of context!

Many times I've read - or written - something that has been taken completely differently than intended!! 3 X in the past I have had guys ask me if something was wrong because they felt my posts where "a little off" ...or that I was being "a little pissy" - when I have never been "a little" pissy" in my life!!! (I'm either VERY HAPPY - OR VERY PISSY!!)

Otherwise - it's a great policy that has been a long time coming!

This really is one of the better forums on the net and I want it to stay that way. I prefer adults to behave as adults, but some of the posts I see on here are over the top and I don't blame Ryan for wanting it to stop. I have never hard any problems with anyone here as I try to post the same way I would speak to someone face to face. The threads where someone is going @#(*&^@#$^@#($^@()#$^* on another poster, I just ignore and move on.

I'm new to this forum, but definitely not new to forums or newsgroups. Sure GJ isn't "bad" now, or bad compared to other forums, but why take a chance and let it get to that point? I think the advantage GJ has over most forums is it's a focused demographic of tool/car/garage/workshop guys and mostly mature ones at that. I know for me, this forum is attractive for my ability to request others' opinions/expertise and share my own. I think it's great to have an active forum admin like Ryan wanting to keep the forum focused, and essentially allowing us to assist in doing so.

So having said that, I think we're all big boys that are more than capable of using self judgment and offering the same respect when posting that we'd expect in return.

My $0.02,
-Ed

More than once (several times really), I've come across some really good posts from someone with good information relevant to the spirit of this site, and I look over at his name to find out who posted it, and under the name it says "banned".

i generally am, and so is e-tek. but on any given day or week some of us may be pissy. and yes e-tek i am serious. i have seen some pms from folks to stay away from you or ignore what you say. if ryan's ideas were taken to heart you and i are some of the people that may be gone. you promote an anonynmous power to some unscrupulous people and they will abuse it. 98% of the people here deal correctly with things. take that small pecentage who don't and multiply that by the large number of people here and it is a lot. i am not even sure why ryan is promoting this now, as of late i think things have been very quiet.
